Thanks for the info everyone. I hopped down to the local office and applied for my card no problem. Should arrive in 3 weeks.

I think these guys are giving you good advise. I will never hurt to have one. You may not use it now, but it will help you in the future.
Good Luck,
Larry -
My company said I should really get one. I already have been fingerprinted and such for my HazMat and that process is underway. I don't really need the HazMat anymore as I was just getting it to get a Job before I found this one. So I read that the Background check will be valid for TWIC , but I can't find out how to disclose that I am already undergoing the Background check. I also notice there are no enrollment centers within 250 miles of me!
I assume they use the Coast Guard offices of something.
Anyway does anyone know of a way to avoid having to go to the enrollment center preliminary? Maybe has anyone in a similar situation living far away from a center can relate how they were able to obtain their TWIC. -

well you must have used the 2 items from list B. I used the one item from list A. My post was unclear.

I did it with drivers ID and SS card.
I had my class A permit with me anyways which helped, as well as my DOT medical card which is recognized as a federal document. I had my birth certificate just in case because my federal, state, and local proof of identities have different names and gender on them. -
You can do a pre-enrollment online, but that just saves you having to fill out all the info when you go to the enrollment office. I did that, then went to the Wilmington, NC office, about a 4 hour drive, one way.
I have a passport card, so that's what I used for my ID.
I don't know if having my HazMat and Passport helped, but I just checked my card status, and my card is ready for pick up. I only went to Wilmington a week ago, Friday the 13th. One week seems pretty fast. -
