Personal Stops

Do any truck companies allow you to make personal stops while out on the road, like if you were interested in something, and want too stop, and look. Are you allowed to do this, or is it against the rules. The reason I asked is because I collect coins, and if I decide to stop. Is this again the rules, or do you need to make request?

Re: Personal Stops

It depends on the company but some things to be aware of:
- Depends on what you are hauling.
- Making your delivery appointment.
- How far out of your route is your detour.
- Company policy.
- Finding a place to park your truck safely.

I would imagine most companys would frown upon driving an extra 100 miles, burning fuel, for reasons other than weather/traffic detours.

Re: Personal Stops

As long as I can park the truck safely and have the time available, they have no problem where I work with such stops. I don't go out of my way, but stops along the route i am taking are no problem. And yes, Cabela's is expensive, but oh so mandatory!

Re: Personal Stops

Sometimes you can bribe your dispatcher after the fact, so to speak. I went about 50 miles out of route to pay a visit to Smokey Mountain Knife Works, and gave my dispatcher a Kris replica the next time I saw him--he didn't mind a bit! (although he said it would probably give him nightmares )

Re: Personal Stops

Im just talking about something right off the route or something. I would be willing to pay for extra fuel out of my own pocket. If there isnt anywheres to park your truck. Can you park your truck at a truck stop, and call cab to take you somewheres, or is it best not leave the truck at all. Sorry just wondering. Thanks for info!

Re: Personal Stops

When I was otr if I had time and I could get the truck in I would go site seeing. I took myself to Graceland for my 30th birthday. I have been to alot of touristy places. If you got time enjoy yourself. You will find that it makes time away from home a little more enjoyable.

Re: Personal Stops

Enjoy it as much as you can. The job is not one of the easiest ones you will ever have. Get out of that truck every once and a while and go exploring.

Re: Personal Stops

Yeah thats why im stay away from tarps and stuff like that. With my not so good right leg, it would pull me down fast suppose. Good thing its my right, and not my left which you have to clutch with. Least thats the side I had to do when i drove a farm tractor. But thanks for the tip.
