Hi there! I am new to this forum and thought I would get some feedback from some of you guys/gals.

My husband has been offered to come work at 3 companies so far (he's a recent grad) and we don't know which is the less of all evils.....so can anybody give me some feedback?

The 3 companies are: Western Express, Swift, & Stevens From what I have read all 3 of these have their bad sides, so we don't know what to do. What's holding him back from some of the better companies is his MVR. He got 2 tickets last year and we are waiting for them to fall off. One was speeding 10mph or less & the other was for a stop sign. So unfortunately he kinda has to settle to get his experience, and then he can move on to better things.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks you guys!

    ~Katie~

I drove for Swift. its what you make of it like any other job. and it depends on what terminal he will be out of also, all of the terminals are like seperate companies and they treat their people different. good luck to both of you

well we are in SC so I would assume a terminal near here. We are near Charlotte but if he goes with Swift his orientation will be in Greer. I told him they all sound the same. Insurance looks better at swift & they have a higher training pay than Stevens. Stevens insurance isn't that great from what I have viewed (worked in medical office). Western Express we havent looked to much into.

is there any insight you can give about swift? he is mainly worried about freight being available because he has heard horror stories about not enough hauls & people just sitting around. His instructor told him to stay far away from swift but that's only bc he feels they push a lease on you. Luckily my husband can use the words "No Thank You". I tried to pm you but I apparently don't have enough posts.

yes they do. He has never hidden anything. On applications he lists the tickets & they have pulled his MVR. Stevens just wants him to provide receipts showing payment. Swift is making him start later once they fall of. Technically they have both fallen off but Swift stated they go by the date you pay the tickets. The tickets are what is keeping him from companies like TMC, H.O. Wolding, and ones of that nature. He always checks out the driver qualifications before applying so he doesn't waste their time or his.

i do not believe the tickets fall off just simply because they were paid for. they stay on a record till the period of time your state drops them off. meaning, if your state has a 3 year period of time a ticket stays on, then gets filed away to yet a "hidden file", then he has to wait 3 years..........all tickets will stay on a DMV report forever, just the past 3, or 4, or 5 years 'drop off".

go with stevens since all they car about is that he paid them.

My opinion, Go with Western Express. He won't get picked on as much. Better chance of lasting where you are happier at.

Sounds harsh, but I think that if your hubby has what it takes to hang with entry-level trucking itself---meaning the hours, hassles, waiting, etc.---the company won't matter much. It's pretty much a "pick your poison" situation.

The good news is if he can hack it, in a year he will have proven much to a better class of outfits that will welcome him with open arms. Good companies use the bottom feeder fleets as a filter for their own applicants. No service failures, no accidents, and no tickets, and he'll be good to go.

Good advice. The 1st year is tough money wise. Make no mistakes about it, it's tough going. But after a year of clean driving, it all opens up, O/O, or move to a better company. Think of the 1st year a paid technical schooling. Make through the 1st year, you passed.
