I got my C.D.L. last March, but I have not driven at all since then. Will Werner hire somebody that has had a C.D.L. for 7 months without any driving experience whatsoever? :biggrin_25511:

I know the recruiter from Warner said start driving ASAP, and then something about 6 months....said something along the lines of if you have no "recent" experience, you need to take a 40 hr refresher....20 classroom, 20 in truck. Not sure though...give them a call. It might have been 6 months in the last 12 for "experienced" drivers though....but he did say they prefer to hire when you are fresh, and still remember how to back....

Problem with Per-diem...it lets you pay less taxes now...and saves the employer too..they will not have to contribute either....
BUT it reduces your taxable income...so it looks like you make very little...try to get a loan...or see how little you get if you are suddenly standing in the unemployment line.....and you will get less if you retire...cause social security is based on your taxable earnings.....
So IF you MUST ABSOLUTELY DO IT TO MAKE ENDS MEET, DO IT. But later when you move on, or are making more...don't. Just do it short term for your first job when you are making crap...or long term, you might be the BIG LOOSER. IF you pay cash for stuff, invest wisely, and believe that social security is a scam, and will never apply for unemployment....perdiem is not bad. One good thing is that if you have an EX, the Per-diem is not considered income.

    Everett Thanks this.

Again a rip off Per Diem is it a good idea question thread! ROFLMAO!

Lets not forget that Warner is CHARGING you to do simple 5th grade math using a computer program!

That's right, you're paying them for the privilege of screwing with your unemployment if needed, workers comp if needed and Social Security when needed! Not to mention a loan when you need it!
But it the real ripoff is them charging you for something that either a secretary took maybe 3 minutes to do in an excel sheet or a programmer took maybe 2 minutes to write a line of code in their pay program!

NO KIDDING I can ALMOST see maybe a whole dollar a month charge for this oh so nice ripoff pay scam but if you figure you drove 7000 miles a month and they charge $.02 a mile for this privilege then they are IN YOUR POCKET for...wait for it...$140 freaking dollars! (that's if it IS only $.02) that month! So you made HOW MUCH?!?! Yeah it's a great deal....for Warner! Now that's for 7000 miles a month but then add all 7000 or however many trucks they have or drivers and see who's in the money! Can you say almost a 7 figure number a month on what is actually FREE MONEY!

Where is the work they have to do to "figure" your per diem at? HMMMMM? It took ME 5 minutes using Easy Calc to figure out how to put total miles in one cell then the pay per mile in another then times each other goes in another cell then the amount of the "privilege to screw driver cost " in another cell and that amount goes in a cell under the per diem pay and there you go clean and simple with Bill Gates Excel Program! Now I won't tell you all I'm a dumb truck driver and figured this out and did my own sheet so old Mr Leathers won't come out looking like a complete thug!

The RICO ACT should be applied in this! It's worse than a loan sharks rates! How does he sleep at night? But keep listening to people telling you it's great! These people aren't making squat to begin with and NEED this imaginary money every week, they just don't see the trees for the forest! That's cents in place of trees!

QUIT THINKING of whats in your wallet at the end of the week BUT whats there when tax time rolls around! You'll do a LOT better when you get that break when the checks come out!

OH! I might be wrong! I forgot that the secretary or programmer must be paid and they make what a million a year so yeah I can see any of these companies that charge you the per diem ciphering charge that much for their few minutes of work! It's ONLY fair!

Per Diem is a rip off. Plain and simply. Zippy had the best description of how it actually works. Be happy if you have a choice any more. Most companies don't give you one. Basically, the only good Per Diem is, is if you're looking to screw the wife and kids out of support after a divorce. Maybe the wife.....but what real man wouldn't want to support his kids? Don't forget though, you could end up owing at the end of the year because that is basically getting your tax return early.

Since you already have a job, Werner hasn't laid off anyone in like a million years, and it puts more money in your pocket right now, I would hardly call that a rip-off. It gives them a tax break, and that's pretty much the deal...
