Companies running automatic transmissions?

I don't care if he pisses beside Ray Lahood twice a day, and writes the policies we live by. He's still pulling it out his butt, he just stated he's only got 4 yrs or less behind the wheel of an autoshift, I've got 10+ yrs and 1.2 (it'll be 1.3 come this weds.) million miles driving autoshifts on the exact same conditions he claims they suck on. I think I can safely say that I know more about these trans, and driving them then he does.

Also, as I pointed out to W900, for people who claim to be so knowledgeable, some of you aren't. All an autoshift is, is a manual trans that's controlled by a computer. Most, if not all (not 100% positive on this) can be converted from auto to manual or manual to auto so long as they have a pre-existing clutch pedal.

 

what difference does it make? it's the same #### transmission, and if you use it correctly, it drives the exact same way.

 

myself i like standards--but that is what i am used to--if i drove an auto --i would probabely smoke twice as much cause i wouldnt have anything to do with the other hand
but honestely, heavy equipment has been auto for a great many years now--if you mentioned that standards would be better in that field--people would call you crazy
my forecast is that very soon --the only standards will be in specialized equipment
just a sign of the times

 

I realize that...But regardless the fact that it could have been converted to a standard 10 speed for a nominal cost...

It would have still been in a T2000 which I wanted to be rid of as much as I wanted to be rid of the auto shift.
When the chance to get the W9 presented itself and I had someone that wanted to take the T2000 off my hands, I jumped at it!

oh WOW! that explains why this new guy my boss hired (then fired) couldnt drive the only split transmission truck in the yard even though he had a class A license. hahahahahaha. when he took that truck out i thought he was gonna do a wheelie with that thing he was poppin the clutch and smashin the gears so badly. glad that i now have the truck and it's assigned to me now

 

i have an expression i use for anyone that tries to down play a job, whether its truck driving, or being a bank teller. everyone can do any job, but the successful pick a job they love and put their heart and sole into it. and thats why people who do what they love generally make a good living out of it, and are not suicidal and hate their job. being on this forum makes me wanna go to work and drive haa. its ok, in about eehh 16 hours i'll be on my way to the plant to drive

 

Not the T2000, shesh, we've been over the discussion of converting the autoshift to a manual several times. And as I said, I wouldn't want the T2000 either.

 

it must suck that you can't comprehend what you read. As I've stated, the majority of my miles are in autoshift trucks, however, and please read this very carefully, if your capable that is. I have 13.5 total yrs exp., the first 3.5 yrs and 250,000 +/- miles were in manual shift trucks, since that time I've driven an autoshift as my primary truck, but when needed I can still hop in one of our manual shift freightshakers and drive it without issue.

Now, you were capable of comprehending that? or would you prefer I put it in braile or some other language beside english?

 

Re read my post...You apparently didn't comprehend what I said.

I have NEVER been involved in an in depth discussion on this forum about doing the conversion of an autoshift to a manual.
The most I have ever said here was " It's an easy, cheap conversion" in a thread or two about trucks that guys wanted to buy that had autoshifts in them but like me they just wanted nothing to do with that stupid transmission arrangement.
I thought about converting my old autoshift to a manual when I had it, But reconsidered it when the opportunity presented itself to get rid of the whole truck and get back in a "real" truck!

But bottom feeders like US Express and Maverick and the like are not doing the industry any favors by loading it up with half trained "hack drivers" that can barely handle the equipment and would be unable to drive it if it was a manual shift.

I also maintain based on the year that I suffered with the one I had that they do not under any circumstances afford the driver as much control or as many options in adverse conditions as a manualy shifted transmission does.
