Why automatics?
-
Care to take a guess? -
Many companies have automatics for people who can't drive a truck. But the only company that has 100% automatic trucks is US Xpress. They are the only ones who can gaurentee you'll have a sissy truckOrlandodriver, QuietStorm and Skunk_Truck_2590 Thank this. -
I think Willis Shaw is all autos.
-
Maverick uses them, not sure if that's all they use, but I know they do...

whaddya gonna do when you quit or get fired from the "pansy-arse" job and HAVE to shift a REAL TRUCK..........?????
me thinkith you will goith awayith............Orlandodriver, Rollr4872, QuietStorm and 3 others Thank this. -
These companies that run automatics are lowering the bar even further for people that have no business driving truck to be out there thinking they can drive a truck!
If you can't shift gears...You don't know how to drive a truck!
Understanding what's happening with your equipment is fundamental to knowing what to do in adverse conditions! If you can't master the simple task of shifting from one gear to another, How do you think you're gonna fare when things go bad and you have to make a very quick decision about what to do...
You may be able to hold a steering wheel and get by while "wingin' it" for a while but if you don't know the basics (and shifting gears is very basic) you are in for a very rude awakening when things go bad!
My problem with this is...After the steering wheel holders screw up, crash and run home with their tails between their legs because they are not adequetly prepared for the job, The rest of us have to deal with the fallout from their temporary foray into our realm!
Such as, More laws and regulations brought on by fear by those who don't understand that the primary saftey issue faced by the industry today is unqualified, Poorly trained people that never had any business getting anywhere near a truck being put in the driver seat by irresponsible companies like US Express that run automatic transmissions and try to make it seem like "anyone" can do this job!
In a way they're right...Anyome can do this job, But few can do it right and safely over many years!
So, Go ahead and get a job at a company with automatic transmissions and join the ranks of non truck driving steering wheel holders and the rest of us will continue to do the job right and know our #### inside and out to make up for the laziness of you wheel holders!Orlandodriver, zaroba, Puppage and 8 others Thank this. -
While I agree with the other comments about Automatics....
TransAM also runs a dedicated auto fleet -
LuDiesel Thanks this.
