    Hey Sara
Welcome to TTR glad you made it here and YES as Wedge and AT say go ahead and post your training! If you are going private like Wedge vs a company sponsored training ,what you have to post may be more valuable to a newbie or wannabee than you can know!! Besides it's fun to watch and read the progress of a wannabee to newbie to driver!!

I think I am already more prepared to begin my own classes by reading about this one...so I can see how helpful they can be. Thanks to all who are providing encouragement!

That's great!!! Sounds like so far your range training is going well!! LOL forgot the horn!!! Someday soon you will be out on the road and some little kid is gonna prompt you to blow your air horn!! Might just take you back to today in a small way so you know how far you have gone!! Must be nice that the PTI so far is going well. It makes sense that is it all safety related but I can see missing a few things until you get your order down and the terminology -no worn parts, no cracks etc.

Okay RACED CARS!!!! What the heck??!!?? I thought you were an engineer?? :biggrin_2558: you know-quiet, studious, carries 18 pens, slide rule in pocket-okay I digress PDA in pocket!! DO TELL US about racing cars!!!!!
I ask cuz years ago I was the ''pit crew'' a few times for my brother when he would time race his mustang at a local race track. Needless to say he generally would beat his own time trials!!:biggrin_25510:

    I live to offset! :biggrin_25511:

    Hello everyone!

The second day on the range is in the bag! We started the day with our Pre-Trip Inspection. Learn it....Live it! (I love saying that) Each of us in our group takes a turn at doing the complete PTI. It's the easiest way for everybody to get the material committed to memory.

In the morning we did offset backing. We took turns doing "sight side" offsets and "blind side" offsets. It helps to have some experience with trailers going into the program. Some folks have trouble remembering which way to turn the steering wheel in order to move the trailer in a desired direction. But by lunchtime, everyone in our group could do an offset back without a "pull up". Nothing drives the point home like repetition. :biggrin_255:

After lunch, we set up and practiced parallel parking (left and right). When parallel parking you will execute the same maneuvers as an offset back, but your set up must be fairly accurate. With an offset back, you have time to make minor corrections once you have moved your tractor over into your target lane, but with parallel parking you have little room for error, so positioning your vehicle properly is most important. Taking your time will always yield good results.

At the end of the day we had some time to get more practice coupling and uncoupling the trailer. Tomorrow is shifting practice. :biggrin_255:

    Until then....

    Thanks for reading!

Gosh, it sounds crazy difficult...backing that huge thing up without being able to see behind you!! I've been reading the CDL Permit book provided by the state so I can take my permit test....that PTI is serious S***! There are SO many things to remember! Do you take notes and stuff during class? I'm guessing I will be the only female in my course since there are only 15 allowed to a class and I don't want to be the only goofy one who writes down everything I hear! I was also thinking, and would love your take on this...I should probably get a carhart jacket or some of that underarmor since it's getting cold here in central Ohio and we will be on the range for a good bit of time. What do you think?
.....I wonder if they make underarmor in pink? lol

Thanks for the update Wedge...I love reading about it!

Yeah, I'm full or surprises. :yes2557:
I'm a multi-career person. Before my engineering career, I was an auto mechanic for GM/GMC for 17 years. I raced a 1960 Ford Falcon at the area drag strips (Englishtown, NJ, National Speedway, Lebanon Valley, etc.). It had a 427 FE motor and ran it in D/GAS. When the track in CT closed I sold the car and retired my racing aspirations to an armchair (BTW my TTR handle is the adjustment that pit crews periodically make on any NASCAR vehicle....."adding in a round of WEDGE" :biggrin_25525: )

I'm not the pocket protector wearing type. I guess you could say I'm a cross between Mozart and Ozzie Osbourne. I'm one extreme or the other. Nothing in the middle. I like cutting edge and what God creates. I think he creates both IMHO.

I have some pictures of the car with the front wheels 2 feet off the ground. I'll find it and see if I can scan it in. :biggrin_255:
