What are the differences between leasing a truck and buying a truck from a major carrier?? From what I gather if your leasing your just paying the payment and are responsible for fuel, but what about maintnance and break downs are those covered by the company or is that all on the driver to?

That will vary from contract to contract - that's why you have to read them, and if you don't understand it thoroughly - take it to an attorney. If you've never run a business before and have no experience driving a class 8 CMV, its a good way to go broke fast.

leasing:.....you enjoy the benefits of paying for someone elses truck and don't get to keep it.

buying a truck:....you enjoy the benefits of paying for everything, and being your own boss to answer to, or the banker if you fall behind in your monthly payments.

either way, you NEED at least 6 months of your salary in the bank for reserves.

you need (for new) at least 20% down payment money. (more for used)

you NEED good to GREAT credit for great loan terms.

you NEED to treat EITHER leasing or owning as a BUSINESS and keep track of the pennies, or you will go broke.

you NEED to run and NOT stay at home as either payment will STILL be due each week or month, no one will like hearing "no freight this week"....

there are many, "you NEED".....those will come up in a little bit.

YOU are responsible for ALL maintenance and repairs... so if the engine blows YOU fix it.

Run away when someone asks you to do a lease/purchase... do a search here and look at the 'docked' thread about L/P's...
