NYS Metal Coil Endorsement Test
You would think that since this has been required in NY for several years, Google would have at least 1 link to sample test questions. Not a chance. The only thing I can find is the PDF for the manual I have been reading and like most DMV books, it leaves MUCH to be desired. It asks you questions at the end of each chapter, but doesn't answer them directly. I think I have read section 3 at least twice and I am still not to sure how to answer some of these questions. I wish I had started sooner as I need to pass by Friday so that I can go to Roehl. They require metal coil for NY people even if they are not planning on doing flatbeds.
The test is suppossedly 20 questions multiple choice, but I actually want to understand, not just pass. I'm sure I'll understand better when I actually do the work as oppossed to just reading it.
If anyone has any good info, please let me know.

This covers the federal regulations>> Driver's Handbook on Cargo Securement
Hope that helps.

I took mine about 2 years ago and their were many different practice tests on the net. Dont remember how or where I found them but I searched the net and found 10+ practice tests. The one I used the most was a trucking school from California if I remember right. It was a load securement test but it was the same as the NY coil test. Do a search for load securement instead of coil endorsement. By the way the test was difficult for me. It took 3 tries and I studied and took the practices. They say no trick questions. Bull $hhiitt! Good luck.

If after reading the FMCSA, NCSS, and the DOT books you still do not understand just metal coils. Read them over and over until you can recite them forwards and backwards. All practice tests will do for you is try to memorize an answer, not understand the content behind it. Coils are not too difficult so you should be fairly set after reading things through several times.
Good luck.

wow!!!! i read this post and i was facing the same situation.... I applied for a JOB and I was told to get the metal and coil endorsement before the end of the week :0( I took the test about 5 times before passing......one of my biggest problems was that the Dmv test TRICKS you on almost every question! Metal and coil is by far hardest Dmv endorsement test I've ever taken and only because i needed more information on this particular topic (metal and coil) ....My advice to anyone facing this same situation is to read DMV manuel and take the test early in the A.M and if they fail in the NYC area then they can take it again in a different DMV location BEFORE THEY CLOSE THEIR DOORS for cdl test takers.... this helped me out a lot cause all i did was switch the answers around in my second test and crossed my figures lol the end result was 1 answer wrong...ps good luck
