You can get a Cummins motor in a F-650 or F-750. F-250 to F-550 have the Powerstroke, which is built by International. Since the introduction of a diesel engine to Ford pick ups in 1985 the only ones available are made by International. The early Ford diesels were IDI's. In 1993 Ford went to the famous 7.3 Powerstroke. In 2003 they swapped to the less desireable 6.0 Powerstroke. Dodge has an exclusive deal with Cummins to provide the 5.9 6BT in a light duty truck. Cummins can not legally provide a diesel engine to any manufacturer for a light duty truck. Ford never has had a Cummins, although there are a few shops that specialize in conversions.

Now you know, knowledge is power.

We have been in hotshots now for a few years .We have three trucks -two running fulltime and one extra to run just local loads with .they all are 7.3 fords .We have had to put in one transmission is all in the last two years .They are real good trucks .a little advice if you go and buy a used truck be prepaired to spend a little money on it .Because it just may have a problem or two .look for a 2002 back to 1999 power stroke .try to find one that has been taken good care of .I bought a 1999 with 79000 miles and it is the best truck ive ever owned .it now has way over 15000 and runs perfect .but it doesnt always happen like that . you cant hardly make it on 1600 a week -paying househole bills and keeping up with the truck cost .It'll cost you at least 500 a week just to have the truck with ins. and all. thats not counting fuel and tires and all other kinds of unexpected bills . every year or maybe a little less its gonna take a new set of tires .oilchange bout every three weeks or a little more. What I'm trying to say its gonna take a lots of hard work and a lot of drive ever to make it .Ihave some extra income and its ruff sometimes .just be sure you know what you are getting yourself into cause brother I havent seen to many of us truck drivers get rich .it is rewarding and you can make it but it is TUFF no doubt .[ PRAY alots and listen even more] BrooksTransport

I had 3 hotshots pulling 4 car trailers and its not as green as one thinks.
If you leave state you will have to have the same tag as the big trucks
You will have to have the same ins.My truck payments where 3600 amonth for the 3 depending on what you get and your credit could be about a third of this.
Also have a backup plan so when it breaks down and it will you still have away to make money.
You will burn alot more fuel then you think .And mine eat up tires they where all plated for 38k and it really took its toll on them all within a few years they where all crap.
Id never get back into hotshots myself not to mention Dot so many guys doing it wrong the dot man use to pull me in EVERY scale and give me a lvl 1-3 depending on the guy.
