Well we hopped over the hill and ran from Reno, NV to Phoenix, AZ... Then caught a load that they supposedly paid us to DH to LA for 3 picks to deliver in Morris, IL... (That's what we are on now)... Actually got a load from a broker on a Saturday, for a Sunday pick-up... Pick up in Joliet, IL and run it down to Nashville, TN over night... So Monday AM we will be looking for something out of Nashville... Hopefully the truck to load ratio will be decent! If we can get another 300-500 mile hop for the next day, and keep that up... That would be a good thing

I finally finished reading this blog. Wow, y'all have really got it going on. I have had my class A cdl for about 2 1/2 years now and currently work for Sunoco hauling crude oil. Daycab Peteerbilt w/200 bbl tanker and home every day. Seriously thinking about hooking up with a company and going OTR tho. Wifey is considering getting her cdl as well so we can team if we do decide to go OTR. Thanks Gary and Paula for the inspiration.

Whew... Some of the loads we've done have been on 30 day pay... This last month has been a bit tight! Those checks are now starting to come in... Thank God! It's a nice feeling to be able to pay Peter AND Paul
We've finally made it back to the home time zone (west coast) and are enjoying the 50-60 degree weather, while watching everyone on FB deal with the snow/ice and negative numbers. I'm sure we will get ours soon enough, but not yet.
We now have a couple brokers that we've been dealing mostly with... No we don't push for the highest rate we can get, but it's a rate we can work with (at least so far) and it gets the brokers calling us. Such as the load we are on now... It's 350 miles, so not a bunch of fuel, but it won't deliver until morning. We picked it up in the afternoon. We (if they would have taken it) could have delivered it in the evening, but are sitting overnight instead. It's paying enough though for our daily minimum to be satisfied. That's the main thing... And one of he hardest we've been having to learn! It's not just the amount per mile, but also the amount per day that is realized. We could get the $25/miles loads, but if it takes 24 hrs and only goes 4 miles... Well you get the picture.
So our plan right now is to continue running this next week with the 300-900 miles runs; ones we can run in 24 hrs. Staying on the west coast. Then being near by for a couple days at the house for Thanksgiving...
I plan on being VERY thankful this year... Not just for what we have, but what could have happened and hasn't!! -
Lady K, good post. It's sometimes funny how life works. I've been driving almost 3 yrs and not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for something I have AND thankful for something that didn't happen that day, but could have. Before driving, I took a lot of things for granted. Happy Thanksgiving!
