Good luck to y'all. I know that I was very excited to get started driving, even if it was never anything that I wanted to do. I just kind of fell into it in Dec of 06. I was a mortgage broker and saw the hammer about to come down. I was burnt out and so one day just up and quit. That was on a Wednesday. I talked to my nephew on Thursday who happened to be a truck driver and he told me "they tell you to pick up at one place at a certain time and then deliver at another place at a certain time and if you can do that, they leave you alone." Bingo. Just what the Dr. ordered. So, on Friday I was in CDL school and got my first driving job with May Trucking in 12/06.

I had stayed in touch with a few people in my CDL class and one guy and I decided to give team driving a shot. Basically, to make a short story even shorter, we lasted a month and I didn't sleep for the entire month, other than cat naps and if we were actually stopped. It had about 98% to do with him though.

For you two, just starting out teaming, I'd suggest planning to NOT run 11/11. Try to run say, 9/9 with some common sleep time between shifts, at least for a while until you get used to sleeping while the truck is moving, etc. I hope you take to it much better than I did.

Anyway, best of luck. Keep the posts coming.

    L

Thank you Luzon - I'm sure there will be a period of adjustment. There is the trust of each others driving I'm sure. I trust his without a doubt, but for him trusting mine (especially since I'm newer at this) will come in time. Heck - I'm sure it will take time for me to trust my own skills!!

The absolute best way to run team is 5 and 5. You will just have to shuffle your logs around a little bit. Not really lying. It sucks bouncing around in that sleeper for ten hours. Since it's illegal to ride in the passenger seat ten hours is just to much time in the sleeper. We got a ticket for not logging on duty riding in the passenger seat. Go figure huh! You guys will develop your own little niche and find what's best for you. I gotta tell you though, when the truck finally does stop and you get a chance to catch a little nap you will sleep so hard you swear you were dead! That is some of the best napping ever!

LOL - sounds WONDERFUL!! (the power nap that is) I was wondering if we would have to drive our hours straight or if we could switch off. I guess that answered that question
