I was wondering if a careless driving ticket I received last October will hurt my chances of getting an OTR job? I haven't finished CDL training yet but I had applied to Stevens Transport and they sent it to their review board or something. Thanks guys

Big companies don't like careless convictions, and insurance companies vary on the severity of the dislike, but definitely don't like it.

it "may be" taken into consideration your age, the driving license you have now (non-CDL), and such when they "review" this ticket....

but it STILL SHOWS a driver was careless......this does NOT bode well with the insurance companies, as IT "may" jack up the insurance premiums to the company. maybe, "just maybe", can you attend some sort of classes provided by your state to get this reduced or removed...????

    however, read on........

by the way, you say "last October"....???

was that october 2009......or october 2010.....???

if october 2010.......this WILL be a problem as its so recent.....and by the way, had you already BEEN in school (if october 2010) when this happened...???? because IF SO, they will look at you and say something like, "Jeez christ man, you ARE IN trucking school, and you break the laws...?? what are they teaching you there"....???

then that's where this "review" can so easily strike you down.......by nearly ALL the companies you apply at........

:biggrin_2555: They must pay .50 a mile and get you by the house daily if they are that strict.

That is crazy isn't it? The recruiter told me that basically any violation within a year will disqualify you from working for they if you are a student.

Actually the government isnt slamming CSA 2010 on the trucking industry. Its the other way around. The trucking companies asked for this. Previously companies were dinged for piss poor drivers, with the new system a driver will get dinged and now companies have a way to get their rating down by weeding out the idiot drivers.

The companies fall into the same category as the driver.

The driver gets points...his company gets points. No matter what.

And the trucking companies didn't ask for it, the insurance companies did.
