My DH was just sent home from FFE for not going to a CDL School. He spoke with Jerry Wren no less than three times confirming that they would still take him. He completed his app and then did his driver test and passed that and then started their physical with the nurse and doctor. I believe he was sent home because he has Type 2 diabetes. The nurse asked why he takes so many meds for his diabetes and then says oh well, I guess it doesn't matter if it is under control. Next he sees doctor and he asks what was your blood sugar this morning and DH said 154 and Dr said that is out of control but I will speak with powers that be and see what they say.

They say go home because you didn't go to driving school.

    They offered theirs of course.

What do I need to ask the other two companies offering a job so we don't waste anymore time?

If any of you reading this work successfully in trucking with type 2 diabetes please PM me. I am desperate for direction so I can help my husband.

    Thank You

    Jenny

I have never heard of a insurance company allowing a training trucking company to hire a student without a min amount of structured training at trucking school of some sort. I'm sure FFE is self insured, but they have a insurance policy that kicks in at the higher claim limits. I know years ago there were many companies that hired on skill alone, but the insurance companies run the industry these days. I think someone messed up.

Yes, I read in the Trucker Newspaper they are forming a new company school in Dallas this spring. They used to send their students to a school in AR.

    123456,

I believe you are exactly right! We will work on that number. I'm going to the Dr tomorrow with DH to find out how to help him and learn a better eating plan.

125 is the very top end for blood sugar, so 154 is not good. Should be 105-90 for normal reference range.

he needs to get on the pills for his diabetes and he will only get a 1 year DOT card. he will need to STAY on those meds.........when he goes to insulin shots....?? he's done..........waiver for diabetics are NOT easy to obtain, then i do believe he can only get a 1 "up to" 3 month DOT card....it'll be more of a pain in the @zz then the job is worth......
and he :"should" get some sort of schooling. check around for a school that'll have (say) a 160 hours course.......

    rerun,

We are checking on the schooling, it's just that he did already work for 4 1/2 months otr and regional with a very small company out of dallas, i won't tell the details but he could not continue riding with them due to safety and legal issues (not his). They hire with a much less than perfect record shall we say.

It's a long long story and I have as much responsibility for this situation as any one else.

What everyone says is true.....do your homework....don't believe recruiters....get education!
