    ....the more I find and repair right away, the less it will cost in in the future....

    This list is helpful! I have one from the school I attend and I need to see what this stuff is. I need a visual, no sense in naming off parts if you don't know what to look at or inspect. Help?

    For what its worth here's my pre trip, got me through school and helped to pass the third party test. I have copied a lot of others and made one that works for me, sorry if I have stepped on any ones toes. To those that posted theirs and you see something that looks familiar:biggrin_25514:. Feel free to modify it to fit your needs.

    [h=1]Approach and state you are:[/h] Looking for fresh leaks
    Looking for hazards under and around truck and trailer
    Checking front license plate current tags
    Checking if truck and trailer lean

    Make sure brakes are set
    Review previous vehicle inspect, check repairs, sign report, put key in pocket
    Raise hood and:
    Check left windshield for cracks, damage or obstruction
    Check wiper arm and blade for wear and tension
    Check treadle valve for mount security and air line leaks and security
    Check air intake for damage and clamps tight
    Check air compressor and lines for proper mount, no leaks or wear
    Check fuel pump and lines for secure mount and no leaks or wear
    Check A/C compressor and lines for secure mount and no leaks or wear
    Check A/C compressor belt for ¾" play, no cracks or wear
    Check fan solenoid for security and leaks and belt for ¾" play, no cracks or wear
    Check fan and shroud for security, good blades, and no obstructions
    Check radiator and hoses for security and no leaks
    Check power steering. res. and lines for security, no leaks or wear, fluid level good
    Check steering shaft and u-joints for mount and play
    Check frame for damage and cracks
    Check str. gearbox and lines for secure mount, no leaks or wear
    Check pitman arm secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check draglink secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check steering arms secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check spindle for security and lube
    Check tie rod for wear and secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check engine for general condition and no leaks of fuel, coolant or oil
    Check wiring for connections and no chafed, broken or loose wires
    Check springs and mounts and u bolts for security and damage
    Check axle for damage
    Check shock for damage and leaks
    Check air lines and connections for leaks, wear and security
    Check brake chamber for secure mount, no damage or leaks
    Check slack adjuster for cotter pin, no damaged or missing parts, less than 1" free play with brakes released
    Check drum and brake shoe for cracks or damage or worn parts, at least ¼" shoe, no contamination such as grease or oils
    Check rim for no damage, cracks or welds
    Check lug nuts for presence and no sign of looseness such as rust trails or shiny metal
    Check tire for abrasion, bulges, cracks, depth 4/32", and inflation with gauge to 100-105 psi, uneven wear, valve cap and stem, No hub or axle leaks
    Go to right side:

    Check right windshield for cracks, damage or obstruction
    Check wiper arm and blade for wear and tension
    Check air intake for damage and clamps tight
    Check coolant window and reservoir for security and no leaks
    Check waterpump for security and leaks and belt for ¾" play, no cracks or wear
    Check fan and shroud for security, good blades, and no obstructions
    Check radiator and hoses for security and no leaks
    Check exhaust system and clamps for security and no leaks
    Check turbo for security and no leaks
    Check engine for general condition and no leaks of fuel, coolant or oil
    Check wiring for connections and no chafed, broken or loose wires
    Check alternator and wiring for security, connections, belt not more then ¾" play, not cracked or worn
    Check oil level, in safe range
    Check oil filter for security and no leaks
    Check fuel lines and filters for proper mount and no leaks or wear
    Check frame for damage and cracks
    Check steering arms secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check spindle for security and lube
    Check tie rod for wear and secured with castle nuts and cotter pins
    Check springs and mounts and u bolts for security and damage
    Check axle for damage
    Check shock for damage and leaks
    Check air lines and connections for leaks, wear and security
    Check brake chamber for secure mount, no damage or leaks
    Check slack adjuster for cotter pin, no damaged or missing parts, less than 1" free play with brakes released
    Check drum and brake shoe for cracks or damage or worn parts, at least ¼" shoe, no contamination such as grease or oils
    Check rim for no damage, cracks or welds
    Check lug nuts for presence and no sign of looseness such as rust trails or shiny metal
    Check tire for abrasion, bulges, cracks, depth 4/32", and inflation with gauge to 100-105 psi, uneven wear, valve cap and stem
    No hub or axle leaks
    Make sure tires match

    Lower and latch hood securely










    Climb in cab:
    Check seat belt and mount for security and function
    Start truck in neutral and check gauges in this order
    OIL PRESSURE, AIR PRESSURE, VOLT METER, FUEL GAUGE, WATER TEMP
    Check light switches
    Wipers and washer if needed
    Climate control (air, heat, fans)
    Other misc. switches
    Diff lock and 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel slide lock
    Check high beam light, left and right turn and 4 way
    Check passenger window, clean not broken rolls up and down
    Check passenger mirror, clean not broken, adjusted
    Check driver window, clean not broken rolls up and down
    Check driver mirror, clean not broken, adjusted
    Check city and air horn, only 1 required
    Check steering wheel play, power not more than 2"
    Check clutch pedal more than 2" free play, return spring good
    Check brake pedal, return spring good
    Check accelerator pedal, return spring good
    Check fire extinguisher, pressure green, secured, proper type
    Check for minimum 3 triangles or flares, not damaged
    Check fuses or circuit breakers

    Tell tester going to do park brake check

    Do park brake check:
    Truck in low gear, release trailer brake, slip clutch, set trailer brake

    Tell tester going to do air brake check

    Do air brake check:
    Pressure must be full, set wheel chocks if needed
    Release trailer and emergency brakes
    Shut down, turn key back on
    Apply 90 psi steady, watch for no more than 4 psi bleed down in 1 minute after initial drop
    Fan brakes, buzzer or light about 60 psi
    Fan brakes, buttons pop 20-45 psi
    Turn key off, remove and place back in pocket

    Start walk around inspection:
    First do complete light check (high, low, turns, and 4 ways) and inspect lights and reflectors for correct colors
    Check driver door seal, hinges and latches
    Check mirror and mount for security
    Check front left splash guard
    Check steps secure no hazards
    Check fuel tank no leaks, secure, cap ok, cross over ok
    Check battery box and batteries, terminals and connections tight, caps present
    Check rear of tractor-exhaust secure no leaks, glad hands and trailer light connection not damaged, cat walk secure no hazards, crossmembers and frame not damaged, pogostick or hangers secure not damaged
    Check front of trailer
    Check air tanks secure no leaks or cracks
    Check driveshaft and u joints, not damaged or worn

    Check differential no leaks

    Check springs and mounts and u bolts for security and damage
    Check axle for damage
    Check air lines and connections for leaks, wear and security
    Check brake chamber for secure mount, no damage or leaks
    Check slack adjuster for cotter pin, no damaged or missing parts, less than 1" free play with brakes released
    Check drum and brake shoe for cracks or damage or worn parts, at least ¼" shoe, no contamination such as grease or oils
    Check rims for no damage, cracks or welds
    Check lug nuts for presence and no sign of looseness such as rust trails or shiny metal
    Check tire for abrasion, bulges, cracks, depth 2/32", and inflation with gauge to 100-105 psi, uneven wear, valve cap and stem
    Check budd rims no spacers, anything between tires, tires match
    No hub or axle leaks















    Check 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wheel
    No gap between plate and apron
    Release arm engaged and secure
    Plate secure to frame no missing bolts
    Greased
    Check king pin not damaged, jaws around shank
    Check air suspension float and stem-not leaking (mention-hard to see)
    Check air lines not leaking cracked or worn
    Check airbags not leaking cracked or worn
    Check mud flaps secure
    Check rear suspension secure not broken or missing parts
    Check landing gear secure to frame handle secure, feet up
    Check trailer frame/cross members secure not damaged, lines secure no leaks or wear
    Spare tire rack option secure
    Identify sliding tandem, release arm secure, lock pin in place
    Check doors and latches secure no damage
    Check ICC bumper secure not excessively bent
    Check rear wiring not worn or broken
    Check license plate secure readable, stickers current
    Do same on left side trailer

    Check fender mirrors secure clean not broken
