healthy food, exercise on the road?

Is it possible to eat healthy and exercise on the road? There should be enough time to exercise. Can you do
some of your own cooking? If you are not allowed to work more than 10

or 12 hours a day than that leaves14 or 12 hours t o do other stuff. I am sure it is not as easy as i make it out to be?

It woudn't be easy but it would be worth it. You generally have pleanty of time to exercise, fix meals for yourself, and participate in other things you enjoy, such as reading, computer games, crafts, whatever. The question is, will you?

It's very, very easy to get done for the day, park the truck, go in and get something to eat and a shower then come back to the truck and crash out. Also, the food in the truck stops leave a lot to be desired as far as healthy eating goes. It can be done but it takes real effort.

Yes its totally possible. You just have to be good at budgeting your time. This can take awhile to learn for newbies. Plus the better you get at trucking the less time it will take you to do stuff. I had all kinds of little exercises I did incorporating my rig as a make shift gym. Another thing you really have to watch is calorie intake. Even though you are exercising you still aren't moving for the majority of the day. I tried to eat under 1500 calories everyday. It's tough but obtainable.

There is also a 'cooking in the truck' thread and a 'health corner' section here... LOTS of good info there

Get a job as a stick hauler (furniture) and you'll get your workout daily.

The most out of shape drivers I've ever dealt with (as a receiver) were the no-touch freight drivers. Hard to remember any out of shape LTL drivers delivering to any of my stores.

Eating healthy can be done anywhere with enough planning and commitment. The commitment is the key.

I am doing it and have lost weight. As it was mentioned it takes a concerted effort to break the habit of walking into the restuarant and go to walmart instead. I have been sitting here at a T/A waiting out a 34 and so far all I got was coffee and a shower.. I have all the food I need for at least another week. Once the invertor is installed than all I will need the ts for is fuel, restrooms and showers.

I have and still working on stretching exercises and walking arount the ts a few times before I crash. The walking I do while my dinner is cooking.

If you want to look into them - resistance bands - take up very little room and you can get some good work outs with them - before you go take your shower

As a dispatcher I had a driver that would ask if he could get a little bit later delivery times so he could get in a run every day. For the most part it wasn't a problem, every now and then I'd have to tell him there wasn't enough time on a load for that, but I would 90% of the time there. Kind of goes against getting the best utilization out of the driver/truck but if it kept him happy and healthy I felt it was worth it.

I used to walk around the truck stops, if I felt it was safe to do so. I also walked around at the shippers/recievers if they said it was ok. Always tried to stay within site of my truck at the shippers/recievers.

It's a little difficult to eat healthy at the truckstop restaurant, can be done. I always used the Walmart, saved money and could eat better.

I have a really nice set of Select Tech dumbells from Bowflex. They go all the way up to 65lbs. I bought a cheap little fold up bench and use to strap it to my slider bar on the cat walk. My doctor said one of the best exercises you can do is sprinting. Short distance bursts. Give it a shot I guarantee you will be sore the next day! You can use your steps on the truck like a stairmaster or put your feet up on them and do push ups. I would use the cross members under the trailer to do pull ups. I even used bungee cords to workout. There's all kinds of different methods. Just be creative and have fun doing it. Of course you like Richard Simmons at the truck stop!
