I drive a wrecker with that condition, and have no problems.

 

when you are applying ask about pre employment physicals. Some places will put you through a serious of test to make sure you can do the job. Usually if you ask they can explain what you'll need to do, make sure you can do it before showing up.

 

I don't know of any trucking job where you don't have to lift something. Even jobs that do not require unloading you'll find most will require that you be able to lift 50lbs. I'm not saying there's no jobs out there but I believe you're looking for a very rare company. You'll have to check each job because you might get into a jam once you're out there.

 

Swift has occasional driver unloads. I have an autoimmune arthritic condition. I have unloaded little boxes one at a time, tires and even shower stalls. I would say about 5% of my loads have entailed physical labor besides yanking on the tandem handle and opening the doors.

Not sure whether they're still doing it, but I was expected to lift 75# from the floor to a 4'6" shelf three times and carry that 75# fifty feet. That was four years ago, though. This time around, I didn't do any of that stuff.

 

Unfortunately i am in the same boat as you are. i have Rheumatoid arthritis which is an autoimmune disease. i have it in my rt. hand and yupp, i'm a righty. because of this condition, i am only given a 1 year at a time DOT medical card so its annual DOT physicals for me. The Bad thing is i am an LTL Peddle driver. A majority of my deliveries are Physical with quite abit of hand unload inside deliveries. thankfully very few if any pickups are ever driver load. Eventually this condition will force me to get off the road unless retirement comes first.

 

Even if you don't have to unload or lift heavy stuff, something else you might want to consider is climbing up on a trailer and putting load locks on, not to mention pulling the stubborn king-pin locks and trailer tandem locks. Sometimes, that can be a serious PITA.
