We don't get odometer miles... I wish we did, but if we were there'd be people trying to get more by going this way instead of that way. So we get HHG miles.. -
Swift pays to center of zip code. That's where it's screwed up. If your looking to learn how to drive, Swifts Phoenix terminal can't be beet. The guys on the range are the best. If you're looking to team, don't look at Swift. You will get the miles, but with solo time. ( 1900 miles and 4 days to get there, with NO early delivery time. SERVICE FAILURE!!!. )
Go to a truck stop and sit at the counter and talk to some of the drivers. You'll get the truth. -
My advice for you is if you can find a local company to start out with. Maybe one that stays with in 500 miles or so. Somethin with some overnights. I don't know if you can haul grain or something down that way. It doesn't really help you get OTR experience most places think you "need" but miles and experience is just that. Who knows. Maybe it'll make you wanna own your own truck instead of just pullin a box down the road with a Volvo.

A side note here, People. Turn in your paperwork as soon as you deliver the load. Don't carry it around and then scan 8 trips all at once.

I would check out Central Ref. or Armellini. Armellini is actually out of Florida. They haul floral so you aren't out that long. You go out 3-5 days make your deliveries and then grab a load back to FL to do it all over again. You can go right back out or take a few days off. You can make a lot of money at Armellini because it is team driving and not only do they pay you by the mile but you get drop pay and there can be up to 50-60 drops! I worked for a company called "Stansell" which was next door to Armellini and they did the same exact thing. I was banking and I was 21 years old!
You can get your CDL Class A now if you want you just can't leave the state. Don't know if it will be worth it or not. Look through Craigslist and see what you can find for jobs. Good luck man!
