Stay away from Werner. Period. Lots of drivers get burned there every year.
Swift isn't all that great either, but better then Werner (anybody is better then Werner).
Wish I could tell you more but I haven't done OTR in years, just line haul and local work. -
Yeah, I would stay away from all the mega-carriers. Sometimes it works out but your chances of success will be much greater at the smaller companies where they treat you like a human being. Check out this website, you just type in where you live and it will give you a list of companies hiring in your area.

Also check out Craigslist. There are some really good gigs posted on there from time to time. Good luck to you! -
Publix,
and you'll never need another job...................... -
ABF is a good company, as is UPS Freight. down in your area, try Southeastern Freightlines and AAA Cooper. I dunno if Wilson Freight is down in your area.
also look into tanker companies, hauling fuel to gas stations, or even milk to dairy plants.
Food delivery is a lot of work, but also pays well.US Foodservice, Sysco, Sygma, and Gordons Food Service are the big ones up here.
Dairy distribution also pays well, as do the bread companies. Beer Distributors pay well.
Look at local pre cast concrete companies, they usually haul their own products on flatbeds. also look at building supply companies that haul lumber and drywall.
Dump Trucking and Redi Mix concrete trucks also pay well, and I would imagine run year round where you are at, so you shouldn't have to worry about a slow season like up north.
local DOES pay just as well as OTR, and most of the time local pays MUCH BETTER than OTR.
keep a pen and paper handy, ALL the time, and every time you see ANY truck roll by that looks local, write down the name and city of origin on the side of the truck. at the end of the day, get online and research what they do, and if you are interested, give them a call. Keep doing this, i have made lists in one day of over 30 companies.
also, call or drive down to the tampa teamsters local, and ask what companies they cover. they will provide a list of companies that they cover in the area. go down the list and call each one to see who is hiring, and when.

there is a list of companies in the area in that link, i would start with them, personally.
That is how you will get a good local job. good companies never advertise, at least not in the free magazines. maybe in the classifieds in the paper, but thats about it.HOLYHELL87 Thanks this. -
Yeah man, hit Yellow and Buster Brown. You can easily make one of those your first and last stop. Be ready to pay dues by busting your arse dockside. ABF is another like he said, all good.
Good hunting..HOLYHELL87 Thanks this. -
try pepsi beverage company
HOLYHELL87 and already gone Thank this. -
yeah, i forgot about coca cola and pepsi, also good jobs. stay away from over the road at all costs, its better to punch a clock at a factory job than to live in a truck.
HOLYHELL87 Thanks this. -
thanks to all of you for your advice...i was checking some information on publix and that does sound like a GREAT place to start...same with pepsi/cola, ups etc...im wondering, with being a school graduate, what my chances would be to get on with any of those companies?...anyone know?
