You're involved in a minor truck-stop backing incident. No damage. No certainty of who's at fault. Both agree to let it go and move on. Three weeks later your safety department calls you in to let you know the other driver has reported that you caused $2000 worth of damage and left the scene. Taken by surprise, you explain what happened in all truth and are instantly fired for not reporting the incident and informed that it will be noted as so on your DAC.

After recovering from the initial nauseating shock, and securing a hotel for the night and a ride home, and then spending a good portion of the day in self-loathing regret for "knowing better", you pull yourself together, swallow your pride, and decide to take advantage of the hotel's free wifi. You get to work on the last-chance-trucking-company online applications, hesitating each time you come that one box. But realistically, what are your chances? Is your career over? Is it time to go back to pounding the minimum wage pavement? It would be such a devastation to bring an otherwise spotless, safe 4yr run to an end over such a seriously stupid mistake.

no backing accident is minor.....now you are charged with a "hit and run"....you cannot call that an "incident"...

as you said, "you should have known better", since after all, you've been driving 4 years now..???? how could you have been so naive...???

    try finding work now......

    i'd say you're toast.

    good luck

Absolutely ! Always gather what info you can and turn it in pronto. Document everything including phone calls and q.c.msgs. The world is suit happy and everyone is looking for a payday. You were probably blamed for for what you did do....and didn't do. It's an old trick to cover other damage.

"Accident" defined: Anytime any part of your unit comes in contact with anything other than the road surface. (stolen from the safety man on point, Praxair Division, Linde Industrial Gas Group, Union Carbide Corporation.)

You kinda screwed the pooch there by not reporting the accident. Always remember CYA, cover your backside.

Just keep looking. Might try looking local, unless you are really wanting OTR. Be honest on the apps. Of course, if there was no police report, there isn't any record of the accident except from what those two companies are saying.

On the other hand, conviction with no proof is not cool either.

In for a dime in for a dollar, deny deny deny.

The other driver needs a punch in the nose.

i wouldn't worry about it, if you have 4 years of driving, something is going to happen eventually. just be ready to explain your side to whoever looks at you for a driving position, and be ready to hear about how you shouldn't do that.

ps, i would want receipts from your company, and paperwork to back up the claim. lets see 2000 dollars worth of damage in an estimate from a shop, and lets see pictures of this damage, as well.

just go get a local job, they never check dac reports anyway. otr trucking is a total joke, it amazes me that people think this is a big deal.......

    True.

But, any intelligent owner and company safety person should have the brains to figure that if 2000.00 damage was done to another vehicle, there would be matching damage to their vehicle.

I cannot understand how you do not know who is at fault in a backing accident.
I mean one truck is normally parked and not moving. The other is moving.
Now if the other truck tried to cut behind you as you were backing it is more of a question.
But if someone ran behind me when I was backing, close enough that I hit them before I could see them, I would be knocking teeth out of their mouth as well.
