i am going to be getting loan papers to start school in a week or so, and i plan to be looking for a job within the month, i guess im mainly asking, if you had to choose from covenant, swift, or werner, who would you go with? also ive ridden in a truck, but never actually driven an 18 wheeler, ive driven topkicks [c6500] for my dads landscaping but thats about it, ive also had a question about my student loan, sense i dont know much about loans, i have a current car loan, and so does my cosigner, but if its a student loan that should not matter as ive been told? ive also come into a t600, hence my username, but cannont register it yet. just looking for feedback from people that know!
ok, going to school, question questions

depending on the bank, payback can start 1 month after graduation, or 6 months after... some students loans start payment 30 days after you START school, so get all the details.
'interest rates" may vary again, YOU get the information.
swift...werner...covenant....
these are the "basic of the basic" starting companies for a newbie..they all have their good pints and bad..
rather than to get caught up in the same ole, same ole rhetoric, why don't YOU do a search of ALL these boards and READ ALL ABOUT EACH ONE......
having your own truck and fine and dandy, if you have the money to run it, maintain it, insure it, etc,etc....do as you wish, but personally as a noob, i would NOT recommend you start off right away as an owner....
good luck to you. -
ok thank you, those are the 3 companies they gave me, and its a 8% loan that start two months after graduation, ive beeen looking at the boards, looks like swift has got the best reviews, ive had the car loan 1.5 years and i have exactly another 1.5 years left, but i spoke to my loan officer and she said all will be fine with that, i get my paperwork tomorrow, and i didnt plan on running the truck my uncle wants to sell to me quiet yet, from what everyone on the boards have said looks like i want to start with a company and then break out on my own after a while, thanx rerun!

ok guys, update, im going to school, i start the 13th, and ive been prehired by covenant, what do you guys think?
werener also prehired me but i just had to say LOL -
but do not (LOL) at werner or any other company, and here's why...
suppose for whatever reason, covenant has a hiring freeze in the near future which means you do not get to go there.....and here you are (LOL'ing) at werner, and let's say no one else will even look at you, and you decide to go with werner.....?? get it..??
do not burn your britches right off the start....be cool...
get ALL the pre-hires you can, then when the time comes to go, you will have more choices, because i'll tell you what, hiring freezes DO HAPPEN...
but again, good luck, and keep us up to date.. -
Feel free to LOL at anyone. I do. Of those 3 I'd go with SWIFT, this is based off of nothing. It's just what I would choose. Don't sweat the hiring freeze, most companies are dreading the "driver shortage", however you don't live in a great freight lane so that kinda sucks.
-
there is and never was any driver shortage, only a shortage of government sponsored paid training the companies get, then fire off the students...and the companies are raking in the money. just read some of the horror stories of some students here.Ranger70 Thanks this. -
ive heard way too much bad about werener but i believe i could roll with them for 3 months, but ive also heard bad things about EVERY Company, so i mean whats the opinion on werner vs covenant?
-
beats me man, from what I've read Werner sounds bad. But who knows what it's really like. Keep on researching, my guess is you don't get to be that size by canning your workforce all the time, you'd lose all of you accounts as people quit under dispatch and what not.
-
As with any loan, make sure there is no penalty for prepayment.
What is the interest on your car loan? SOmetimes you can roll one loan into another, if it will give you a better interest rate.
