I am curious, as well as my husband, if having electronic logs is better than paper? My hubby is a nubbie and didn't know where to start so he was picked up by the first co. that would hire. Obviously Wel was this co. and they have electronic logs and he absolutely hates it (people net) not that he wants to cheat logs but that once you start your drive time you can't stop until that time is up or else you loose drive time, with the exception of three hours off duty time. Any way I was hoping someone could honestly recomend a tt job that doesn't have elogs but doesn't burn a hole in your right foot either, also, if possible home on weekends.

    Thanks for reading, sweetie

Would someone quit a company that they like in every other respect just because of the types of logs they use? I just hope whoever I end up with has elogs of some type. Takes the guesswork out of it and keeps both driver and company on the same legal page.

E-logs coming to a truck near you !!!!!! it's just a matter of time they will be everywhere. If he likes the company but not the logs he might as well stay there. Job hopping is not a good thing to start doing. Good luck

Lose drive time? What? How long is he stopping?

We've been using SorryNet (PeopleNet) for a couple of years now and the only way it cuts into Driving Time is when you've burnt your 3 hours On Duty. In fact it will automatically pop you to On Duty if the truck isn't moving after a couple of minutes (say in Nashville morning traffic) and automatically pop you back to Driving soon as you start rolling. It will not touch Driving Time until the 3 hours of On Duty is used up. This is how you're supposed to log anyways.

If your hubby's unit is doing otherwise it may be malfunctioning and he needs to notify the company so it can be fixed/replaced.

Even if you find an entry level company which uses paper logs, they'll probably still have a snitch box (Qualcomm) on it, and the company's going to require those logs match up with the Qualcomm.

Might as well learn the ins-and-outs, trials and tribulations of e-logs now.
As they will be industry standard in the not too distant future.
In which case, you'll be ahead of everyone who doesn't know how to use them.
And a step up on drivers jumping to outfits using paper logs in a failed attempt to postpone the inevitable.
Even local jobs are using GPS/tracking systems in their daycabs.

Bottom line: if you can't adjust to running with e-logs, you might as well find another line of work.
