NOTE: The company name is not relevant to the question, so I did not include it. I will post the company name in 24hrs, so to give time to get responses, but not bias them.

There is a major trucking company that is giving away FREE cdl training. The training is through a community college and is 3 weeks with an additional week of hands on training IF you decide to go to work for the company. After the 4 weeks of technical training you are sent out with a road trainer to polish your craft and learn the ropes in the real world.

Your only obligation, should you choose to accept the training and then decide to go work for the company, is to agree to drive in a specific division of the company towing a specific type of trailer and frieght. You must also live in a specific geographic area to be able to take advantage of the offer. You pay licensing fees and DOT physical, otherwise, NO PAY BACK. NO OBLIGATION OF TIME. NO COMMITMENTS.

HERE IS THE QUESTION: How obligated would you feel to work for this company?

    What say you?

Since most training company's are getting around 5,000 per trainee they put into a program from the fed's, and since most people would feel at least some obligation to work for a company that hooked them up.
I would feel that it could be a decent deal. It does depend on the company though. Some I would not send my worse enemy too. Like England, CRST and a few others.
But if it is not a company pushing a fleece, and they are not forcing new drivers to team, then I would give them a shot if I was a new guy looking to get into the industry.

How can you tell when a recruiter is lying? When their lips are moving.

for me personally, I would want more information about the company, what they offer. Is some strings to this deal you already stated: the type of trailer, where division, area live in, and other things. However, if the company had some of the perks I was looking for, and was not a trailer type I am unwilling to do, and I lived in their specific area (lot of if's there), I would give them 6 months to a year of my life to get decent training for smaller costs. But would really depend on company specifics not listed in your current post.
As far as 'obligated', that would really depend on what other strings there are, and company specifics not listed. It's business, not personal, imo.
