A lot of companies will put profit in front of your personal saftey. Up to this point everthing that you have learned has been about saftey. But take warning when a company ignores bad or unsafe equipment when you bring it to thier attention, then it effects your life and others on the road.
If you happpen to be with one of these companies then it's time to look for another carrier.
If a company ignores it's equipment or support in order for you to do the job they want, then they have no or little respect for you as an employee or driver.
Remember the first person you want to take care of is you!:Trailer:

This is very true advice. If you work for a Jippo/shoddy company that doesn't take care of their equipment, runs you over hours and treats employees (Drivers) poorly, you'd best get out of there and fast too.

Many "local" trucking outfits are like this, particularly the ones who serve agricultural needs like planting and harvesting crop seasonal drivers, are the worst for this kind of nonsense, since they can slide by under some of the husbandry/drayage/AG rules and exceptions which should not be so.

Don't forget: If there is a fatality accident, the DOT will be going over everything with a fine-toothed comb, so anyone out of compliance WILL be fined or jailed. It wont matter if you were involved or not. You will pay up.

Its just not worth your time and money to work at such a place such as these, IMO.

eventually when the company gets enough CSA points, they can be shut down. of course in the meantime a driver can also suffer from those points as well.

personal safety should never be an issue for a driver, it should be standard operating procedure to do a proper pre and then later, post trip inspections. if a driver chooses to forgo a proper inspection, or just drive the truck because he is afraid to report defects, because he may get a "junker to drive" that day, well screw him too, as this MAKES HIM just as guilty as the company, and God knows the drivers i personally have seen at a former LTL company i once worked for, so I KNOW that happens.

There are enough inherent dangers in driving for a living. Shoddy equipment shouldn't be one of them.

I'm sure you aren't the only driver out there with a similar story.

I worked a very short time for an outfit that had wheel bearing seals so bad that we had to add 140 gear oil every week to the hubs. The brakes were soaked in it.

That was a long time ago, and I would never do that again. If it aint roadworthy dont run it out the gate. Tell dispatch and go home till they fix it right. CSA2010 will fry lots of shoddy companies, I hope.
