Go do heavy labor for a week then come back to driving, I bet you wont notice your sore hands anymore, if you do you surely wouldnt complain about them, lol.

One thing that I used to do was to drop my hands down by the side of the seat and wriggle fingers, hands and wrists. Of course if you are driving, it might be preferable to do this one hand at a time. . .:biggrin_2551:

Seriously, just doing this little exercise for a short time, a couple of times an hour, will really help you out.

Also a good exercise if you are on the computer for hours at a time.

Anyone ever tried a steering wheel cover? I've wondered if that would help. There's so much vibration coming through the wheel and that can't be good for our joints. Plus it seems like one would get better control without gripping.

Guess you wouldn't make it through a day trip on a bike then.

Indeed. I rode 400+ miles from pa to in for school on an enduro bike which are not known for comfortable handgrips. Hand went numb constantly.

It sounds to me like you just need some black fingerless gloves. They will also instantly turn you into a supertrucker.

You are defiantly nervous at driving. Give yourself more room on the road, back off from other vehicles, relax. You only have 3 years driving, and sometimes it takes years to get comfortable.

if your hands get that feeling of "falling asleep" on you or there is any tingling afterwards, you very well may have the makings for carpal tunnel syndrome. repetitive motions of the hands lead up to this. you can go to your regular doctor first and he/she will give a few quick tests to determine this. if he/she feels that you have carpal tunnel syndrome, he/she will refer you to a Orthopedic surgeon for yet another examination where electrodes are put into your arms and they zap you with current. if you do not respond, this will confirm carpal tunnel. the operation is quick and easy. the most difficult part is waiting for the doctor to call you into the O/R...recovery is "about" 1 to 4 weeks...

i had both hands done, thanks in part to my wrench turning days.

one hand was done, 2 weeks later i had the other done. then after an additional 2 weeks, i went back to work...

if you do have carpal tunnel syndrome and do not get it taken care of, you will have permanent nerve damage. as it is now, if you have any nerve damage that is not severe, it takes (on average) about 1 month for every inch of your arm to get back to normal, so DO NOT DELAY in getting this checked out.
