Any drivers out there get sore and tired hands and wrists from gripping the steering wheel all day?

Try not to "grip" the wheel. Hold your hand in a natural position, like they are when hanging at your side, and just rest your hand on the outer edge. If you have arm rests, use 'em, it helps to take the strain off your arms.

If the truck is out of alignment where you find yourself holding constant pressure on the wheel to keep the truck going straight down the road, it's time to visit the shop. Better some work on the truck now than work on your wrists later for carpal tunnel.

lililil has it right--for me anyways--arm rests are a must-- and unless you got a nasty wandering truck---you really dont need pressure on the wheel--just a loose grip---and also dont have my arms stretched out--just an arm on the rest--then its kinda angled up to the wheel just laying there--and really when i think about it--i hardly ever completely grip the wheel its more of a palm grip i guess--i started driving after getting artheritus in my shoulders and hands from pulling wrenches too many years---and driving very seldom seems to bother them

It's carpal tunnel. Vitamin B6 actually helps. Or quitting driving. That cures it.

also keep changing the grip style and location on the wheel. Break up the repetition.

Use armrests. Utilize very light grip pressure. Alternate hands from time to time. Possibly do some wrist flexion stretches from time to time.

As has been said, try to soften your contact with the wheel.

ALSO: meddle with the tilt and telescope of the column. A very subtle change in the angle of the wheel can change the breaking angle of your wrists and almost totally eliminate the strain you're feeling at the base of your hands and in your wrists.

Find a way to set the wheel where your hands bend back on themselves as little as possible. It's a night and day difference.

    Or get "it" done quicker!

So many drivers are always in such a rush to accomplish the task "at hand"!:biggrin_2559:
