This is probably going to be more of a rant than anything else but if your this type of trainer than maybe this will help youl see things from the trainees perspective.
I've been with two companies so far. One was a mega carrier the other is a smaller company. At both companies I have had nothing but BS out of the trainers. The first companies trainer was more interested in sitting in the passenger seat asking if were there yet every 5 minutes, saying "boring" every two seconds and yelling "were gonna die" while driving down a 2 lane curvy state road at night.
This new company is great don't get me wrong. Small company, friendly people and all the local trainers I have met are awesome. But I'm here to go regional so all tho the guy I rode local with last week said I knew how to drive and to test me I have to go out once with a OTR trainer. So I was told I'd leave Saturday and go to Laredo,TX and back and if all went well they'd test me when I got back and I'd be set. Great. Well the OTR trainer knew nothing of me going with him on Friday and said he'd call me back. Never called so I called him Saturday to see what the plan was. Said he didn't know and he'd call me back. Never heard back and surprise surprise he left out today. WTF. He knew the whole time he didn't want to take me cause he's mad about training pay. Ok. I understand that but he could have said something to me Friday. All I need is 1 trip out and I can test. He at the time is the only open trainer. So now I gotta call in tomorrow and I'll probably be sitting here a few more days waiting. I got bills just the same as everyone else and I need to start getting some miles in to make some real money.
So my point is you never know what that trainee has going in his life. If you don't want to do the job then don't.
If you sign up to be a trainer then be one.

Why do you need a trainer do that? Just for the job title? I'm with a very small company now, they have no trainers per se. I spent 3 days with two different guys getting trained on the type of trailers we have, and somewhat off road.
As soon my enhanced license get's here, "thankyou Michign for dragging your feet", I'll be taking one truck, while another driver takes another, to train me in what we do at the customer.
None of these guys are trainers, and I'll bet they don't get anything extra, so, does it really have to be a "trainer"?Colorato Thanks this. -

Thanks. I've got a call into the FM. All I can do is wait.
johnday Thanks this. -
i'll start off at one end, and that is, "no one cares about your personal life"..you are only a student driver, you have NO SAY in what takes place or happens at ANY trucking company. if you're told you will sit and wait, you will. if you are told they don't know they have to take you on the road, you wait. the trainers personal life is more important to you because you give them any grief, and you're out the door, "next victim please" is all they will say..
if the trainers pay IS AN ISSUE, then you will suffer as the trainer CAN AND WILL refuse to take you, because all he's got to say to the company is, "i ain't doing it no more"...they won't fire him, because he's STILL a driver there.
as a newbie/student, as Wargames basically said, just wait......
you are not someone anyone will worry about, if one starts playing the crying game....start walking, because they will not need you. it's the way it is in this industry, until you HAVE your time and experience.
now for that trainer to constantly say, "we are going to die".....what WERE YOU DOING WRONG...on the twisty 2 lane road...?? were you going over the double yellow lines...??? were you going over the white line on the right shoulder..??? you DID something wrong.......
good luck to you.... -
I did nothing wrong he just thought it was funny. He'd laugh every time.
I understand I have to pay my dues. You guys point that out to every newb who posts on here. All I'm wanting is the chance. And the point I was making was if you want to train people than DO IT. Or at least man up and say that you got #### going on or etc. Don't be a ##### and act like your god and #### the new guy. Maybe that's the attitude that's drawing over nothing but the type of drivers YOU and the others ##### about. -
time after time, a trainer MUST continue to nit pick at the students, because pretty much all students make the same mistakes, and although menial to the student, it's multiplied by how many trainee's the trainer see's in a month..
all schools pretty much suck at teaching you what you need to know...
all students pretty much suck at LISTENING when in school and have nothing better to do than biotch about road time, when they can barely back up.
so now enter the company driver-trainer...he (or she) NEEDS to correct you in what YOU were SUPPOSED to learn while in school..i can tell you many students have a thick skull at times and because of that, a trainer will take it out on the next student. he shouldn't, but he will. the last 1,2, or 3 students that guy had that didn't know he had to take you..?? well those dummies could have caused him to say, "screw it, for what i get paid, and for what they short changed me on the last time, why should i do this anymore"..??
so even though in reality (your personal life has issues), it really isn't no one's concern you are getting pushed around, i mean after all, YOU went to those companies first, THEN they chose you......LATER....
too bad you're going through this, but just wait it out and you will be on the road....a word of caution.....DO NOT keep changing jobs....this will make YOU LOOK BAD, then what can you say for yourself then...????
just stick it out.
good luck.Colorato Thanks this.
