how can i overide the engine shut down on a 2012 cascadia

There is a way to get around the idle shut off without any issues and can idle no matter what the temperature is outside and it's a fairly easy trick.

all one has to do is get a cup of ice and or get the compressed air in a can that you clean keyboards with.

Once you have this then goto your truck and open the hood (most of those who don't do pretrips regularly may need to refer to your owners manual for the truck to open hood).

now that we figured out how to open hood, look around the front bumper, radiator, and find the temperature sensor gauge. (If you cannot find it you can always ask someone at a ta shop to help you find it)

since we we now found where the temp. Sensor is at start the truck, grab a couple pieces of ice and hold it to the sensor for a couple of mins. Then check to see if temp down enough to idle, if it is the truck should maintain idle. Close the hood and done.

if you carry a can of compressed air this works great just hold it close to sensor til it freezes then repeat step above without ice. Truck will continue to idle (compressed air is great for places to where one cannot get to ice or have the ability to get ice such as a rest area)

for those that are worried about the company seeing the high idle amounts, well there is a trick to that too all one needs is a couple of roach clips, but that will be in next weeks lesson on how to hold a roach clip properly.

 

At the company I started with, as long as the temperature was above or below the threshold when you started to idle, the engine would remain on. On the Peterbilt I had, the sensors were on the bottom of the driver's side mirror. When I would park for the night, all I would have to do was hold a cigarette lighter just under the sensor until it got above 80, and the truck would idle all night.

 

Try setting just the trailer brakes. Often the system will not recognize that you are not parked and will keep the engine running. Once you set the tractor brake, the timer starts.

 

I made a little device to work around the anti-idle. This thing makes the computer think somebody is pushing the brake every 4.5 minutes which resets the idle shut down count down. The result, happy napping [emoji4]
