My company uses Cintas for company uniforms. I've been very impressed with their Air Disk II steel toe shoe. It's a bit like a steel-toe tennis shoe but with the sole of a hiking boot. Cost under $40 and mine last a year or more of daily wear. The sole is sturdy enough to walk comfortably on gravel, the sole give a distinct heel to catch the clutch pedal, and they are light and waterproof.

I've been wearing Steel toes for the past 8 years. Yes I got my first pair when I was 12 years old in 6th grade. I've had Steel Toes ever since. In the summer my toes get pretty warm. Also in the winter they freeze a little lol. I just like them a lot. I've found more uses for them than just safety reasons. I personally wouldn't wear anything else. I love my steel Toes :)

Agreed..I believe OSHA has much to do with allot of this..and although I do not have a problem wearing steel toes,it bothers me to no end when I am required to wear my hard hat at a steel or lumber mill..:biggrin_2556: Exactly,WHAT is this going to protect me FROM?:biggrin_2556: But,rules are rules, get the load;and outta there.:biggrin_25525:
Actually,I should wear the hard hat IN the truck, with as much as I hit my head in there..

A lot of these places probably have you wear PPE without the oversight of the government because of things that have happened in the past at their sites or something similar. It does not take a 20 foot 1,000 pound of steel to do brain damage if it hits you in the head nor a big chunk of wood to mess you up if it smacks you in the noggin. I pick up at a manufacturing plant that produces steel parts and it's unbelievable to me that they dont require steel toed shoes, a lot of the stuff there if dropped on your foot in single pieces would only break your foot or toes, unless you was wearing protection.

I really don't think many companies have a boot policy per say. Maybe some of the flatbed companies do. You definitely want to protect your feet but you also want something comfortable to drive in for 10 hrs a day. I drove in flip flops or tennis shoes and when I got out of my truck I would slip on boots. Can't tell you how many drivers I have seen on the dock in flip flops though! Hell I've seen slippers on some occasions.

I think that it is a good idea to have a good pair of shoes or boots that have steel toes, whether it is required by your company or not. It will be required by many who pull a flat or step deck. If you pull a van or reefer it is still a good idea to wear protective shoes. You never know what can happen. Besides, it presents a much more professional image than wearing sandals or flip flops. Having a non-skid sole also helps.

Never had a problem with mine. Their non-slip sole seems to work pretty well, and they've held up fine. I've had this pair since 2002.

I worked at a printing company once that required steel toe shoes/boots it was more for insurace of the company than anything else. a 2000 pound roll of paper will crush you foot with or without steel toed shoes.
