Oddities about PPE.....
Our company hauls from chemical plants that require long sleeve shirts yet they issue short sleeves and T's.
Once saw a union construction site shut down when a driver showed up wearing a GI type WW2 combat helmet. Union guys was trying to kick him out for not wearing a "hard hat".
Heard in a steel mill in "the Soo".... one of the "what use is a hardhat here" crowd was mouthing off. Foreman replies; "Ain't about you. Costs us a bundle to clean the s--- inside your skull off our coils so we can ship em."
Also to one of the "what use" guys unloading at a construction site in an open field. Deadpan answer.... "You ever get hit by a bird turd from 1000 feet up? Hurts man."
The reality is this; you wear whatever the customer or your employer requires. At best you get barred from the work site; at worst you get suspended or fired. Nobody cares if you feel put upon. You can go exercise your "freedom" in the unemployment line.
Oh, and consider this.... If you get hurt not wearing the required PPE you can forget about Workman's Comp or any other type of "insurance". No lawyer will touch your case either. You are completely on your own.
Them's the facts Jack.YaleTech Thanks this. -
Oilfield driver and Steel toes and Hard hats are required.
I use a pair od Doc Martins I picked up from Woods boots for 115.00. I forget the weight but their also acid and shock resistant. Their nice and comfy as well. Also, I work a lot of Frac sites which in turn uses a lot of water. So it's not uncommon to wade through a little water. My high tops with laces work okay but occasionally I'll end up in slightly deeper puddles. If you plan on working the oilfield, especially Fracing, you may want to consider something taller.Joescheppae Q Thanks this.
