How much vacation time does the average trucker get?
I've heard some work 300+ days a year, while others
have said they work 20 days on followed by 10 days off.

Are both of these legitimate possibilities? Which one is
    more common?

Check out the home time thread. Apparently those newbies have it figured out! They are telling me you get weekends off and make great pay. Maybe ask them.:biggrin_2556:

I had 2 weeks this summer, granted it was because the truck was getting repaired two different times but it was still time off.

reality is that if you live in a good trucking lane you will see home more often then someone that lives in FL. Just about every trucking company gives you at least a weeks paid vacation a year. You can figure 1day off for every week out for OTR. and good luck on getting 10days off in a row being a company driver. A week is about the most I can get with out pissn someone off.

What they don't tell you is that day off is thanks to a 34 hour reset. Oh, and if you're OTR most of the time you take theese resets way out in BFE. Yeah, you will be home...... That truck is your new home.

Title of thread talks about vacation time which I would take to mean paid time off .

Then the opening comments seems to be referring to scheduled days off (unpaid).

Your amount of scheduled days off will vary from one driver to the next depending upon what company he works for, what division of the company, the geographical region he lives in as well his preference.

Most OTR drivers accrue 1 day off for every 6-7 days out. Some get two days off each week but that is pretty rare.

Local guys more frequently get 2 days off after 5 on and are home after every shift as well.

I'm currently a local intermodal driver, and am home every night have off every Sat and Sun unless I volunteer for an extra day. I get 10 days paid vacation as well as an additional 12 personal paid days off each year for a total of 22 paid days off per year. I would consider my paid time off better than most driving jobs.
