If you do not bring your truck home on your off days and leave it at the company's parking lot, do you leave your stuff like the cooler, tv, etc. things that you bought in the truck? Do people at the company get in your truck while you are off for checkups and such? I am basically asking if I need to take EVERYTHING out of the truck or can I leave some clean clothes in there and random items I bought for the truck. I am a single homeowner so even if I were allowed to bring the truck home, I don't want anyone knowing I drive a truck otherwise people may figure out that no one is at my house for weeks at a time. I have a garage and people do not know when I am there or not. Once I save up and move to the upper class area in my city I would not mind bringing the truck home. I live a nice middle class area but some of the houses for rent attract young punks.

Talk to the company you work for. If there's no slip-seating and the yard is secure, there should be no problem leaving your stuff in the rig.

I have too much stuff in here to even think about taking it all out.

Seems to really depend on the company though. Some will assign the truck to someone else if you're off for more than a couple of days and require you to clean it out.

You gotta' remember, it's their truck, right ? I have worked places that they gave me someone elses truck for a couple days because they had no available trucks when I finished orientation and had loads that needed to go. Also, the mechanics have keys to the trucks and sometimes like to rummage thru your stuff. If a driver comes thru the yard at 2 am and the mechanic can't fix the problem, he might say grab that truck and deliver the load and swap out when you get back, whenever that might be.

The only stuff I left in while I was out was the CB & antennas. It was not "my" truck and could go out anytime if it was needed and I was not there. I didn't even like leaving my radio & stuff in it but I wasn't about to do that every morning. I had 4' tall antennas on, which I liked and payed attention to whenever I was in a low clearance area. Get someone else in that truck, not theirs, they dont care, anything is possible at that point. So I started removing the antennas and leaving the radio...thinking surely if someone needed the radio that bad they would find a pair of antennas to use for the day. Nope, some guy put 1 antenna on my co-phase setup...thankfully nothing burnt up.

Everything else came with me in the duffle bag at the end of each shift..

The company I drove OTR for had a written policy, Home time over 3 days clean out your personal property. I drove for them for 2 1/2 years, 31 days out for 5 days off, and my tractor was slip seated only once. I left clean clothes, fridge, TV, tools, etc. in the tractor during my home time. GPS, laptop, logs, and other electronics were always removed. The one time it was slip seated none of my personal property was missing or disturbed. Based on Q/C messages he had the tractor for 3 days and about 850 miles.

Not sure if he's still with the company though. First thing I noticed when I went to the yard to load my stuff, the day before going out, was the damage to the right side fender. After checking Q/C to see if it had been reported to safety, it wasn't, I sent the accident report to safety with pictures and complete explanation including the driver code used on the Q/C. Also had safety officer at my terminal complete report with photos.
