I have been scrolling through all the info on good/bad posts for different co's, and I get so much variation in answers/opinions. Could you please help me in my research for what co to start out with by answering the following questions?

    For your first yr driving:

    1) how many miles (paid) per week did you average
    2) what was your avg weekly paycheck (net)
    3) how long/often were you home
    4) could you unhook to go somewhere when being loaded/unloaded
    5) was it no touch freight
    6) when off, did co allow you to drop trailer and bobtail close by to run errand, go to restaurant etc
    7) could you stop every 2 hrs or so to stretch back/legs (15 min break) or did they push you to drive 4-5 hrs w/o stopping
eight- did they push you to try and not take 34/hr restarts or are they cool with it (if you want a day to rest)
    9) If want to drive at night, can you idle when sleeping during the day
    10) did you feel pushed to run too hard, or the opposite (too hard to get miles), or was it pretty good?
    11) who did you drive for

    Thanks for your help =)

Ya know, don't take this the wrong way pmracing and dragontamerbrat (actually do), but I just have to say this: the world would be such a better place if ppl like you didn't exist. That's right, the world would be better off if you weren't here! You have nothing to offer but your smart*ss comments and sarcasm. You make life harder on other ppl by going out of your way to give them a hard time. You provide no help to those in need, but you try to make other's lives miserable by trying to get a laugh at their expense. Yes I am new. I have read many posts, and as I said, have gotten many different viewpoints and opinions, so I wanted a thread where I could compare info that is important to me in a concise and organized manner. If you didn't have the answers to my questions, you could have just not said anything. BUT NO!! You go OUT OF YOUR WAY to offer the only thing you can from your insecure, pathetic existence: to make other people's lives more difficult.

FIRST thing you will learn NEWBIE is that YOU must have THICK SKIN! Trucking is not a job you get into because you think the money's good...Trucking is a lifestyle and the benefits are good pay, freedom, and a chance to experience all the great things this Country and sometimes Canada has to offer.....

I won't ridicule you for your questions, but I will suggest you don't take things too personal on this forum or out here on the road....

9-5 is NOT a truck drivers hours nor is stopping every 2 hours....You need to make a delivery and you need to make it on-time....A true "professional" truck driver is as much a Customer Service Rep as they are a truck driver.....

ALL THOSE QUESTIONS DEPEND ON THE COMPANY YOU WORK FOR, BUT HERE IS MY ANSWERS TO THOSE QUESTIONS:

    1) 2500-3400 BUT RAN MORE (You won't get paid for all the miles you run regardless of how you are paid) Actual mileage pay differs from company to company

    2) $900 because I forgot to turn in most of my paperwork, Usually closer to $3000+ but I get paid every 2 weeks, and YES that is BRING HOME (NET)

    3) Home every 14 days for minimum of 48 hours

    4) NO, you must stay with your truck....most shipper/receivers will not allow you to drop on there property unless it's a drop/hook but you will be hooking to another trailer.

    5) 99% of the time, but you can't be afraid to touch a load if need be to get the job done....handled 500lbs of freight last week to get unloaded faster.

    6) When OFF? Hometime??? Truck is NOT your personal vehicle....on the road With authorization and I have 1 hour in every 24 hour period to do such with company truck while out on the road. It's called "personal conveyance"

    7) Most of the time I stop whenever I want to as long I have planned my trip right...but 4-5 hrs of running is NOT pushing you. I run 9-10 hrs straight some times and 4-5 hrs before stopping for 15 mins is MOST times.

    8) You run out your 70 then reset. If you are waiting for a long period of time and can get a reset you do it...If you are running you will reset....If you aren't then there is no need as it will reset on its own while you are sitting at the truck stop for days.

    9) I can, you may not depending on which company you work for...different idle policies for different companies...choose wisely

    10) It's trucking, some times you bust your arse and sometimes you sit. It goes with the territory....you will learn that what you may think may not be reality when you get out here....Trucking is NOT for the faint of heart...

    11) Will NOT answer this question as it is NOT relevant....previous employers are JB Hunt, TRL, Falcon transport, then some mom/pop shops

    GoodLuck brother.......

You get out of trucking what you put into trucking.....you half arse it and it will run you into the ground.....you will hate life and turn in your CDL...you work hard and you will reap its benefits....:biggrin_25514:
