Check out the BBB?

I know its not much but why not check out the better business bureau if your looking for information on a CDL school or trucking company to work for......it at least is a start of course you will still need to ask others etc, but sometimes they do have good info.

the thing with that is, any company that you want to "check on" needs to be a member of the BBB. the BBB simply will not have any info on any company not a member.

That is not correct, the BBB will have a record of ANY company/business that is reported to them with a complaint, their job is to mediate the complaint, they will do that, and the company/business that has the complaint registered against them will have a file that anyone can check out, it will also tell the person doing the checking if that particular business/company has become a member of the BBB, what the company did to fix the customers complaint, and how many complaints have been lodged against that company/business in the last 36 months.

well things must have changed since i left the repair business 20 years ago. we (back then) had a problem with a dealer of automotive parts, but the BBB couldn't help us out as the parts company wasn't a member. we were, but not them..........so the problem never got resolved........

oh wait, it did................we just stopped doing business with them.....

i just did a quick search on the BBB's "Mission Statement".

as a MEMBER they will arbitrate any disputes that the MEMBER agree's to when signing up.

so yes, any one can "complain" to the BBB, but as a non member, its a moot point for any satisfaction for the consumer, as the consumer won't stand to gain anything other than a "complaint" lodged against a company.

Heres the deal, the BBB will take a complaint from a customer, ask the customer what they would like the BBB to do IE: get them a refund, a differnt item etc....then the BBB will go to the company, tell them of the issue and ask them their side of the situation, then the BBB will go back to the customer with a response....they are the mediators in the situation.

YES they do respond to complaints, they DO try to get the matter resolved, and you DONT have to be a memeber to get these steps taken. IF you do file a complaint that complaint is still on the business record, for public viewing for 36 months. My entire point being check out any school or company with the BBB to see if there have been complaints field against them and how they were delt with.

this from a search when i searched on Google, i typed in: "Responsibilities of the BBB"

______________________________________________-

TruckersI filed a complaint with the BBB. The company has not responded. Why can't the BBB make a business satisfy my complaint?
When a BBB receives a [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. , we present the complaint to the business and request its assistance in working out the problem with the unhappy customer. Most companies are grateful for the opportunity to resolve problems with their customers since it often means their patronage will be preserved.

BBB members agree to respond to consumer complaints presented by the BBB, and lose their membership if they do not. Most other companies, regardless of whether they are BBB members, also cooperate with the BBB. However, some companies do not want to work with the Bureau and/or their customers to resolve complaints.

Because the BBB is not a government or law enforcement agency, the Bureau cannot force a reply from a company; nor can it administer sanctions. However, a company's unwillingness to respond to the BBB or a customer will be noted in the company's reliability report the BBB provides to the public. The customer is free to pursue other alternatives such as legal action.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
so yes, as i said, anyone can MAKE a complaint, and it may be "logged", but in reality, only a member company has agreed to actually do anything about the complaint(s). a non member company CAN do something, but they are not held by any legal binding contract (membership) of the BBB.

Whatever, you think what you want, I still say I know what I am talking about and the BBB is there to provide info on companies, check with them on any school or company you might think of going with, if there are complaints you will know, you will also know what solutions were reached if any.........its just another step in the process to being INFORMED

Agreed, BBB can be used for such info. They are NOT perfect, and do NOT have all the info...YET, it simply won't hurt to just check them...just in case!

my PM to you explained in detail what i'm trying to get across to you and the others.

simply put, YES you can check ANY company and check them out.

however, if you are having a problem with ANY company, and that company IS NOT a BBB member, resolution to any problem will not be at hand (some of the times), because some companies (non-members) will indeed resolve any complaints.
