There's a CDL school north of Atlanta that has weekend classes. A total of 17 days training.

Would you advise me to pay for my own training (about $3,750) which will enable me to keep working Mon-Fri.

    OR

Go directly to a truck company for training.

I'm single, no pets to worry about if I have to be away from home during training.

The advantage to paying your own way is you don't have to sign a contract with any one trucking co;you are free to leave when you want. Most of the company sponsered CDLS are over priced (up to 6G)So IMO you should pay for it upfront, then get tuition reimbusement from the co you join. Also you can see if driving a big rig feels right for you before you really get into it.

Pay for it yourself, that way you owe NOBODY.

3 years as a bus driver. These companies are going to love you. Patience of a Saint. LOL

I was your "young age"when I got my CDL. It was paid for thru unemployment job training, but then I had a local job lined up (concrete mixer) and I had no plans on doing the OTR gig.

Pay for it up front then you dont have to worry about being locked into a company and you can choose which is best for you. Just my opinion! Good Luck!
