Hey guys as you can see im a new driver have been driving for under a year and have always double clutched right out of school and am trying to learn this new no clutch shifting and am getting frustrated so i decided to come here for help... My shifting up is fine i usually shift around 1500 rpm...its the downshifting thats getting me... i used to downshift every gear until i got to 3rd for taking corners...recently ive been experimenting taking it out of gear fanning the brakes and trying to fond a gear at the corner...i usally can get it into 5 and a half...thats what i call it lol.....and then split down to 5th....here is when i find myself troubles i hit the splitter and go into 4th and it never wants to...i dont know if im not slowing the truck down or....... my truck has the cummings isx in it...and i really want to get this down...i wanna be able to drive day to day without grinding....thanks guys

where does your rev back UP to 1500 come in on your downshift?

I saw our instructor shifting UP without clutch. Didnt catch it on the down that way. Seem to remember him clutching on the down side.

First you have a cummins not a Cummings

as for the shifting, there is a 400rpm differance between FULL gears (not splits), ok. So lets say your driveing along in 6th gear at 1500rpm, you slow down to 1100rpm (still in gear) then pull the shifter out of gear (without the clutch) if it wont come out tap the fuel and it'll pop right out, then raise your rpms 400rpms back to 1500rpm and push the shifter into 5th gear.

Its no differant the down shifting with the clutch, the only differance with floating is you have to be more accurate with your rpms/road speed when shifting then you do while your useing the clutch.

just keep practiceing it'll become 2nd nature just like double clutching did.

And find your gear BEFORE you start your turn, not during.

Better hope the company you start off with is the one you really want to work for, then. All you're doing is handicapping yourself and making yourself ineligible for employment down the line when you decide you'd like to work for Company X, but they don't run autos.
