answer to that is very good! Ive been working on a frac refueling crew now for 3 shifts 11am to 2-3 am so 14- 16 hours a shift. Its only a few days but it seem much longer when your working it lemme tell ya!
My day consists of gettting to work at about 1030 am and we pile into a company truck and drive for about 3 hours to the frac site near Gozolas texas though its really out in the middle of nowhere if you ask me!Once we get out there we get the scoop from the lead driver from the last shift(days) about what stage the frac is on and general knowledge about whats new. Then we fuel up all the frac pumps, sand traps, sand belt, generators, backside pump(lol) and other misc equipment on the job.We use 2 bobtail trucks with 5 compartments each to do this not to mention an assload of hose. Then while the frac crew is doing a stage usually 1-2 hours we do paperwork and sit on our #####(again lol!) We usually wait until they finish a stage before fueling again but we keep an eye on the equipment just to make sure nothing runs dry. This means just unscrewing gascaps and looking in real easy! I ask a lot of questions because this stuff is really interesting to me and i dont wanna be a trainee for long. Im the 5th guy on a usually 4 man crew and id like to get to another crew where im just one of 4 ya know? The big boss asked me yesteday if i was ready but i told him i needed another day to get all the paperwork down theres a lots of paper assosiated with fueling and i wanted to make sure i got it before i move ( 2days im supposed to get all this?) They are expanding and the pressures on to get new crews up and running i guess... Ill tell him tomorrow im ok to go really i just needed a day to get my apartment in order! I dont even have cable or internet yet so its kinda hard to get my act together .
Im not even sure i can call myself a trucker since the only time i drive is the short distance on the job to refuel of refill the tanks! Plus its an automatic! Oh well the important part is im getting paid to work a lot of hour which will translate out to about $80000 plus a year.So im not complaining just trying to explain to all the real truckers who read this and will probably snear at me (#### you im getting paid!!) lol
The big frac company on the job im on is called Pumpco and i looked in all the rigs they have on the job mostly Western Stars and they are all automatics! I guess thats the wave of the future...i know a lot of the crude haulers are the same cause ive asked around ( im nosey like that...
Im really enjoying myself learning new stuff though im probably pestering the #### outta everyone else, but #### em i gotta learn cause i want to be a lead driver soon im not so good as an indian i wanna be a chief ya feel me?
I got other #### to do on my one day off so ill update you later as i get more into it Thanks for all your support guys!!!

Good to hear from you vegas.

Sounds like you are having a good time, thats good to hear since I ended up getting on with Thomas too! It was the first place I stopped at yesterday afternoon, then today right before lunch they called me with an offer, got all my paperwork and stuff done, and the boss told me to show up at 10am.

I am not as organized as you since I am in a hotel still. I need to find a place to live. What part of town are you in, if you dont mind me asking?

To anyone thinking of coming to Texas, come on down, all the rumors are true!

Things are looking promising, I have made it to the "under consideration" level on a job outside of san antonio and I'm still sitting on my duff at home. I'm a total newbie but I do have a referral. Anyway, getting excited, another buddy told me that san antonio the best place he's lived and given a choice would be there still. It's only a little over 100 miles down to Corpus Christi which is one of the places in the US that I've always said I wanted to end up in.

I'm getting the impression that ND jobs will be hard to come by for rookies thru the winter unless employers are really desperate.

On another note, thought I'd share a site I found that is pretty cool... If I understand correctly this map shows all current drilling activity in the US:

    http://gis.bakerhughesdirect.com/RigCounts/default2.aspx

Wondering about driving I10 east to tx thru NM in the wintertime... not finding much information, but it's looking pretty easy even in the winter. Any comments on the drive?? I'll be pulling a little tandem travel trailer with my v6 toyota tacoma.
