Thurday the 15 th thats the day i head to Texas! i just received my hard copy license in the mail from the DMV.I really want to work in the oilfield trucking and ive narrowed it down to the areas id like to live in. Im looking at Corpus Christi ,San Antonio or Victoria mostly because living near the gulf presents a lot of recreational opportunities. Not that ill have a lot of time off...ive read the many threads here and it seems like you work 12-16 hours a day but hey when i have a day off id like to spend it at the beach fishing right?
A little background on me ive been a commercial painter for 20+ years in Las Vegas NV and as everyone knows constuction is dead and the company i worked for for 15 years is gone. Ive spent the last year trying to make a go of it independently but its not going so well and im tired of doing the same thing anyway. The thought of working in a office fills me with horror after years of getting dirty with the rest of the hardhats plus who doesnt want to drive a big rig? You guys know what i mean!
Ive done a lot of research about this on this forum and elsewhere i was really inspired by the stone cold rookie thread( thanks Paul) so im just gonna head out and start knocking on doors. The eagle ford shale area of south texas seems like the next big place for me . I really dont want to freeze my ### off in North Dakota plus ive been to texas a few times and the people seem really nice. Unlike las vegas were i live now where pretty much everyone is self absorbed and not the kind of people you d like to be friends with.
If anyone has suggestions of companies i should see when i go id like to hear them. If you get referral money make sure you leave your real name lol!
Thanks again to everyone here for all the great advice youve given to rookie like myself this is a really cool community!

Is that going to be close enough to the coast for you?

Google maps shows the office address to be at a self-storage lot. Too bad; I would like to take a peek at the truck yard...
