always take time to get out of the truck and see where you're at visit the restaurant across the street or down the street walk a mile on nice days.. you only need a hotel if you want to watch tv sit back and relax floyd least a day and a half take this time to get to know old friends and new cities.. you should work hard and play but not play too hard

There are agencies that will give you a permanent mailing address for jobs like OTR trucking. I forget the name though.

I drive a day cab and stay in motels 4 nights per week. I use a CLC Corporate lodging card it gets me a good discount over the advertised rate. You can get a book that lists all the motels in the US and it says if they have truck parking or not.

While my truck has a sleeper, it is the discretion of my boss if I sleep in the truck or in a hotel. Weather, load, and various other things are considerations. If it's middle of summer and the truck will be idling for 10 hrs for A/C, he'd rather spend the $59 for a hotel vs. the cost of fuel and wear/tear on the truck idling. Same in the winter. Now, at present I do a dedicated run every two weeks. The first night of the run I sleep in the truck, generally because it's less than 8 hrs. The second night, I get a hotel room, it's built into the rate we charge the people we do the load for. I have 4 hotels that alternate between depending on the city where I am spending the night.

I have a rewards card for Choice Hotels and Wyndham Group of hotels, thus building up rewards points. At present, I have almost enough with Choice Hotels for a free night, although they did recently upgrade me to Elite Gold status, which gives me a discount at Choice Hotels worldwide, as well a discount at some other companies, and I get a rewards points pass. When I register at a Choice Hotel, if they recognize me as an Elite Status member, I give them one of these cards and it gives me a 1,000 extra points on my account and they get recognized by the company for paying attention to the guest status.
