This question is mainly for those who don't spend their home time in the same place. Or, for lack of a better explanation the drivers who essentially live out of the truck.

I will fall into this category as I'm not married, no children. It doesn't seem logical to pay rent/mortgage for something you may or may not see less than 4-5 days a month.

Lest I get misunderstood... NO, I do not plan on staying in a hotel/motel often... YES, I understand the sleeper is where I will be spending a lot of time.

How often do you "treat" yourself to a hotel/motel? Do you stay in them only on your "home time"? Any other info/advice is also welcome.

  3. This is exactly how I am, I'm single, don't need to go home EVERY weekend, I will treat myself about once a month...or every other month.

**Just a note for future use...if you check into a hotel, ask them for a truck driver discount, they will usually give you 10 to 15% off the rate.**

Im married, drive a flatbed and my wife and 14 lb rat terrier travel with me. I utilize a motel about once a month and use a website called www.hotels4truckers.com to find a lot of them. Its a website that specializes in motels/hotels with truck parking and trucker friendly. You can get a discount just for booking a room thru them. Read the reviews about a place too as we have found several that were way overpriced and some that were dirt cheap that were really decent. Southern Comfort has it right also, you will get a cdl discount if you ask and we are a fan of the Drury Inn's in the midwest because of all the stuff they offer for the price. Our favorite is in Hayti, MO on I-55

Back in the day when I spent more time in the truck I would get a room once maybe twice a month. It would just depend on where I was and the load I had.

No problem, glad to help. I also know of several motel 6's with truck parking and they are pet friendly too and werent on the website. We just use the smartphone to find them and then call and ask.

Awesome. There may be an app, not unlike the truck stop ones. I'll have to look into that.
