Hey everyone, I am getting ready to start trucking school. I have been reading up on the industry, jobs, & lifestyle. I am kind of a tech junkie and am curious what Apps if any drivers use out on the road?

I have an Android smartphone & an iPad. Will I be able to utilize these devices while at trucks tops? How are in the wireless connections?

I have a friend who builds apps in Raleigh, he wants to build one for me (and everyone else)when I hit the road. What would be useful in an app? Trucks tops, weather, Traffic info, weigh stations, parking options, food options?

    Thanks for your help guys!

well they arnt "trucking" apps per se, but u always have weather bug for weather, google maps for a map, i know theres some out there for food and traffic. if ur friends going to build one, then truck stops/ gas pricing and taxes by state, weather updates by gps, weigh stations, and an atlas would be a pretty good combo package to make.

There aren't trucking apps huh? How about pilot, loves, petro/ta. Rand mcnally. All of the trucking rags are on line. I have one on my thunderbolt called speedview. It shows mph, has a trip meter, elapsed time, odometer, and compass. Not really truck specific but pretty useful. Google maps is @95% accurate. But its not truck specific either so ya hafta watch truck routes, low clearances, etc. Also, an app called altitude cause I always like to know how high I am......whoa.....did I just say that?
