Being a GPS user in 4 wheelers for 4+ years, you are dead right! I always carried an atlas for the oilfield locations I went to. If you trust GPS 100% you will get in a lot of trouble!

i have used a laptop gps for about 7 years now ( not in a big truck ).i use the laptop because it is a laptop and can be used for more than gps.my program also has the data disc which means i have access to every name and phone number on every street that is on the program.can also search for businesses.no,it's not 100% but you should be checking the info before leaving for your destination and, like above mentioned, while moving you can see your turn coming up,distance, time etc.and if u get on the wrong road or miss your exit it will reroute u back or give u a new one.have used it for last 4 years for US and Canada in a straight truck and would not leave home w/out it.BUT,don't forget how to read a map!as for the coat hanger, good idea.i always leave mine outside of the cab and the window always cracked a little bit.have locked myself out of truck twice and coat hanger saved me time and embarresment.anything that makes my job easier, saves time/money,i use.
