After three interviews I got hired on with a local company starting on a bobtail then upgrading to a daycab/48 foot after a few months with a few more dollars an hour along with it. Tomorrow is another big day-a second interview with a tanker company. I graduated in November and have been applying literally everywhere within a 50 mile radius along with hundreds of phone calls since November asking for a chance. Like many knowledgable folks on this forum have said-the jobs are there if you dont want to go OTR. Apply everywhere you can and show up in the office with copies of your license, DOT medical card, your diploma, and a current DMV printout-trust me it works. We may be rookies and have a lot to learn but we are eager and grateful for the opportunity. Keep your thoughts positive and apply/call/interview with every local company you discover. If anyone is ever in Monterey look for the dude surfing-ill buy you a beer (if your on a 34 hour reset that is) :biggrin_25520:

Well that's a good deal. When deciding between the two or (?) make sure you look at whats gonna be good for the long term and not just what's set out in front of you. Congrats.

Grats man that's a sweet deal. I know I may be in the minority, but unless I landed a local job that would pay me in the upper 50k range I'd rather go OTR to start........so in other news looks like I'll be going OTR

any chance I can get a point of clarification on that statement?

At Schneider they start trainees out pulling 77,600 lbs of liquid and say that bobtail is dangerous.

You got hired at business A but have an interview at business B tomorrow? Usually once you get hired you don't have to go to interviews anymore... in any case or outcome congrats. I never did any OTR road either, just local for 3 years and counting... What kind of work is business A? LTL? Regional distribution?

It means that he'll be driving a straight truck. At least that is the meaning I took from an interview that I had back in Oct.
The safety manager asked me what equipment I had experience driving. By the context I guessed that he was asking about straight trucks.

I suppose he really means he is driving a "straight truck". Be kind of hard to carry any cargo on a bobtail tractor.
