    It seems I have to look this up every other week from various charts so I figured I'd just make a post to which I can later refer. Hope others find it useful.

    California: 40' KCRA
    Connecticut: 43' KCRA
    D.C. 41' KCRA
    Florida: 41' KCRA
    Maine: 43' KCRA
    Maryland: 41' KCRA, overhang <35% trailer length measured from center of tandems
    Michigan: 40'6" KCRA
    Minnesota: 43' KCRA
    New Hampshire: 41' KCRA
    New York: 43' KCRA
    Rhode Island: 41' KCRA
    South Carolina: 40'6" KCRA
    Tennessee: 41' KCRA
    Virginia: 41' KCRA
    West Virginia: 37' from last tractor axle to first trailer axle
    Wisconsin: 43' KCRA

    Most states also allow you to run more than 12000 lbs on the steering axle (up to tire's rated load limit - 6175lbs in my case -- 12,350 total)

    the states with an actual limit of 12000 are:
    Arkansas
    Indiana
    Louisiana
    Mississippi
    Wisconsin
