Is It Going Too Far To Ask A Recruiter>

Is it going to far to ask a recruiter if I could touch base with a trainer prior to signing on? I have a CDL A but hearing all the bad stuff about recruiters lying and such I did not know if this is possible or not. Or how else can someone find the "low down" on a particular company. I have been searching the internet getting info and have narrowed my choices down. Any help is appreciated

No it is not. The worst the recruiter can say is NO. Now for privacy reasons, do not expect them to give you a phone number to a driver. But instead be prepared to give your number to the recruiter to pass along to the driver.

Also, have you tried going to some truck stops and talking with current drivers? I have done this and found that most drivers are more than willing to chat, be it bragging about their company or complaining about the industry.

Good Luck

I don't think it's going too far at all. Like devildice said, the worst that they could say is no. Who do you plan on driving for? I see that you're also from Delaware. Head up to the Flying J or Pilot across the DE Memorial Bridge, and talk to drivers. I plan on going to Del Tech next year for my cdl, after I retire from GM. Good luck.

I Am Possibly Going Work For

Usf Glenmoore. From What I Have Read They Look Ok And They Have An Atlantic Coastal Run I Would Like To Try. I Went To Smith & Solomon School In New Castle. But From What I Have Read It May Be Better To Get A Cdl From A Tech School.

you can ask this if you wish, but the chances of you actually getting the trainer you meet are slim. he (or she) may be caught up with a trainee that isn't doing things right and the company will keep them together for a while longer. then you will be going with another trainer. don't worry about it now, most trainers are just "ok" not fantastic. its been my observations that some students think they know it all, and this ticks-off the trainer to no end, causing for some bad times on the road.

I agree with poster "devildice". Conversate one on one with other drivers without going thru a third party. Their viewpoints are invaluable. Also keep in mind that company trainers are paid extra to train. Therefore, why would a trainer offer a potential employee any information that may be detrimential towards the company. If you pass your number thru a recruiter, believe me, the recruiter will brief the trainer prior to him contacting you. Then you'll never get a honest assessment about the company. Good Luck driver.

THANK YOU

Yes, I Can See What You Mean. I Am Not Asking To Meet My Trainer Prior To Signing On...but I Think I Will Get To Some Truck Stops And Talk It Up Some. I Just Started Back With My School For Some Refresher And Feel Like A Fool. I Am So Rusty! But I Walk In With My Head Held High And Walk Out The Same. It Is Just Coming Back To Me More Slow Than What I Thought I Would! Again, Thanks To All For Your Invalualbe Input.
