money dictates everything, one would think that if in the future companies make an auto thats more fuel efficient and is safe and easy to drive they will probably take over. Not that mt is a thing of the past but rather still auto's are not good enough to swap out the old stick.i love driving a auto through Boston because its easy and convenient.

I know GA has the same thing in their manual. Whether they actually enforce it or not I don't know.

The OP's school teaches manual, but they do have a few autos. Mostly just used when practicing backing, and for those who want to take their CDL test in autos.

His (our) school instructors say that MN does no sort of license restrictions when testing in the autos, but that will be changing soon.

Just for the record: at the CDL school we all learn on 10-speeds and over half way through today for the first time I drove an automatic. Please folks, pay attention and focus on the thread. Several of you jumped to conclusions about the school teaching only automatics etc.....

I was asking if anyone had experience testing on, then being restricted to, an automatic. I said NOTHING about any school teaching only on automatics.

I have not heard of someone having an "automatic" restriction here in TX.

I never heard of that. We only had one auto my school used for backing practice. I did test with an auto but I knew how to shift. They had us shifting while doing laps around the practice yard. They also used a 10 sp Volvo for driving out on the road.

I think GA and CO have it. At one time, I think Mass also had it.

Personally my opinion on taking a test on an automatic should restrict a person to that type of vehicle.
