Good Companies Located In The NY Area?

Hey everyone,
I'm Chris. This Is my first post on here since I found this site last week. Well, I'm starting C.D.T Trucking school out on Long Island March 5th. It's an 8 week full time program, financial aid Is actually paying the $6,000 because I didn't work on the books at all this year. It's a P.T.D.I affiliated school & It's private with job placement, so I'm sure It's a good one.
I have a 100% clean license & criminal record, the only problem Is I can't produce any on the books records of work for 2006. That has me a bit worried. Any advice on what I could do on that? My next question Is what are some good trucking jobs In the N.Y State and or Long Island area that will hire driving school grads? Next Is, do I have to work In NY because of my NY license? I ask because I just changed back to NY from NJ again when I moved and It was a royal pain In the ***
Lastly, I'm single with no kids, no car payments~Insurance Is $100 a month, my father Is gonna let me crash at his house the couple of times I'm home a month. So I really have no bills & I don't care about home time too much. I know It's not an easy job/but I want It & I will do well In school and get It. Don't laugh but I wanted this since I was 13 lol. Any help would be great everyone...Sorry for the long post, I won't make a habit of It

You don't have to just work in NY, the rule is, you have to have license in the state where you reside in. So you can still do OTR driving. Do online searches for trucking jobs in the NY area if you don't get any feedback from here, I personally have no clue for that area. Also most truckers I have found became truckers because it was a child hood dream. I didn't know anything about OTR, never even heard of it till my dad told me about it when I got out of the Army, and I never even thought about trucking till my dad told me of their lifestyle and said it was fitting for someone like me.

Thanks Alaskan That's really good news. I did a search for dry van solo OTR for NY and only came up with a few I would probably like. I'm glad to know I don't just have to work In NY. I have read the Commercial Driver manual over ten times now & made some custom knowledge tests from the book. I'm getting all the questions right and will probably have the manual memorized by the time class starts. I have now been reading as many threads as I can to get the real life experience from the drivers. I'm learning Important stuff thats not In the manual as well. I figure I just want to be as prepared as possible when I go.
I also have driven a few 10 speeds at the large plant I worked at, so at least I have a basic Idea...They all said I drove/learned like I was a natural~so we'll see. I cant wait! I know I will do fine. Thanks for the response ~CHRIS

Chris, sounds like you are the perfect truck drivin candidate. Most of the big companies will hire from just about anywhere.During your school you should be interviewed by several recruiters.I know Schneider operates in all 48 states,so that would be a start.Actually living in the BIg Apple area should be a plus.So many road drivers hate going into the city.Good luck.
