I've read several that are good and several that were a waste of time. What is your favorite book on trucking?
    • The Good

    2. Marc Mayfield: In the Driver's Seat
    3. Harry Gorge: Common Sense Guide to Driving a Truck
    • The Bad

I can honestly say I have never read a book on trucking . I guess I never thought about it .

From my experience I don't think that reading a book will teach you about how to be a truck driver. I have however had and heard many good stories about the things that have happened to myself and others on the road that I thought were worth putting in a book .

But I am to busy and the statutes of limitations my not have run out on few of the really good ones!!:biggrin_2559:

No book on earth can prepare you for the first time the trailer tries to pass you on the sisters in Wyoming or backing into the market in Chicago or Philly . These things are just things that you HAVE to experience for yourself .

If I do ever feel the need for trucker stories I will just pull up a stool to the liars counter in any truck stop that has a sit down restaurant and presto the first liar don't stand a chance !!! LMAO

You've got to know the rules of the game you're playing before you can bend 'em to your favor...

...and if you DON'T know the rules of the game, you'll never know if/when you are being taken advantage of.

"Truck Stop," by Bryan Di Salvatore and Marc F. Wise. The writing and the photos (portraits of drivers, mostly) knocked me out and inspired me. Before "Truck Stop," I hadn't found anything that came close to describing trucking and the road as I experienced them. I count it as one of the best books I've ever read.

"Pedal to the Metal" by Lawrence J. Ouellet is also good. Neither book is a how-to; both are non-fiction.

    Good thread! :biggrin_25514:
