I don't have my CDL yet. I want to drive OTR, and I'd like to start out with a company that will pay for my training to get my CDL. According to this website, the following companies will pay for CDL training or hire new drivers. Which ones allow small dogs? (I'd be interested in probably the tamest breed there is.)

Companies providing CDL training and jobs:

    Central Refrigerated Service
    CRST
    C.R. England
    Frozen Food Express (FFE)
    Knight/Squire Transportation
    Milan Express
    Millis Transfer
    PAM
    Prime
    R.E. West
    Roehl
    Swift
    Stevens
    Wil-Trans
    Companies hiring recent CDL graduates:

    Arnold Transportation
    Baylor Trucking
    CCC Trans
    Conway
    Covenant Transport
    Crete Carrier
    Earl Henderson
    Gordon Trucking
    H.O. Wolding
    KLLM Transport
    Maverick
    Midwest Coast
    Navajo Express
    Premier Transportation
    Schneider
    Star Transportation
    SuperService
    TMC
    TransAm
    U.S. Xpress
    Venture Logistics
    Watkins Shepard
    Werner Enterprises

    Thanks.

You could be screwed sir, in saying that though, I see alot of people in swift, who look like they are driving company trucks with dogs. So perhaps much like inverters it's a "out of site, out of mind"

There are plenty of companies out there that allow dogs. Most require a deposit however. Really not that big a deal. Don't expect a new truck though if you are bringing a pet. Chances are they are going to give you one that has already been pee'd in! :biggrin_255:

Do your homework. It will pay off. We really enjoyed having our dog with us and it was so worth it. Not only that but it is some added security out there on the road. You may also want to find companies that run APU's because you aren't going to be able to leave your dog in the truck in the summertime. Especially in some of the hotter states.

Check out some of the older pet threads on here. There is a lot of good info for having a pet on the road with you.

    Good luck!

    MrEvgyrt and PowerOfSolitude Thank this.

I would guess that information is readily available on the company websites. Do a little research, and I'm sure you will find the answer to your question.

APU is a generator that you use when stopped to do your brk to either warm the trk or cool it depending on the weather.More and more companies are installing APUS on their trk for a couple reasons,to save on idleing trk all night and wasting fuel also many states it's against the law to idle trk more then 5 minutes. They're expensive but in time you'll make up for it by saving all that fuel to idle. You waste a gallon of fuel an hr.APUS use very little fiel, don't know how much though.

The APU or "little motor" will run the A/C in the truck so that your pet won't cook at a truck stop in Barstow! It is illegal to idle your truck in California and you don't want to leave your pet in the truck without A/C.

Course I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before the outlaw the APU in Cali!

So, the pet issue aside, if neither APUs nor idling are allowed, what is a trucker supposed to do to avoid roasting in his truck when trying to sleep in Barstow at noon in July?
