New to trucking looking for some advice

first let me say HI to every one..... HI....

Ok I start my CDL class on the 26 of Feb and I am looking for a good trucking company to go to after I get my CDL.

I live in Sumter SC and I am looking to find a company that is near me or Southeast region area. I would love to be home at least 2 to 3 day out of the week if possible, but still get about 2,500 to 3,500 miles in that week.

I am prior military so I understand the demands on the body and sleep patterns all to well .

The companys I am looking to so far are as following:

Roehl
Schneider
US xpress
Anderson's (ATS)
Transport America
werner (keep getting letters from them.. that could be bad) Ok saying away form Werner
Mcelroy

Oh has anyone heard of Gainey Transport Services?

any advice would help greatly

Thanks in advance

Oh and the reason I would like some home time is so I can spend some time with my 4 yr son and wife. (wife understands the job... lol married me while I was in the military)

Welcome to the forum!

I would stay away from werner at all costs, you can read lots about them on the board. Good luck with your company search, theres lots of info here to help you out......

wow Razriel, you sound almost exactly like me ^_^. Although I'm not going for my CDL just yet, still working on the ex-military part, I too have a 4 year old and wife (who surprisingly enough is almost as excited as I am about me getting a job driving trucks ^_^).
I've been lurking here for about a week now (waiting for the durn registration confirmation email), and I've pretty much decided to go with either Roehl or Schneider, based on the relative lack of negative posts here about them (as compared to others like Swift... ouch), and my own research on them.
Where are you getting your training? I'm looking at Sage in Columbia SC, or a community college a little closer to me. They both cost about the same, so it's still either-or.

I am going through TDI (Truck Driver Institute) based out of Lancaster SC. Now some companies have a reinburment for your school but I heard it does not come out of your pay.
If you would like more on this just pm me and I can give ya the phone number I called to get on with TDI.

Oh how long it the course where you are looking?

43 hours of behind-the-wheel one-on-one training, 80 hours of classroom training, and 28 hours of SC-mandated observation time, so a total of 151 hours.
